I haven't watched Jeopardy in weeks. My wife had the tv on today and I was only listening to the last ten minutes of the episode in the background while I was cooking, so all I heard was the voice and the amount won at the end of Final Jeopardy. I had no prior knowledge of the champion prior to today's episode.

Ken says "Amy" twice and "she" four times when he comes to her for Final Jeopardy. He says this as clearly as he announces her winnings.

And again, I was listening to it as background noise for the most part. The part that stood out to me was the amount she won and the number of wins.

Seems like a lot more long streaks this season. Amy is a very strong player.

Yes, he is. Oh, my mistake, she is. I won't do that again, please excuse me for that. I was also thinking I really like Ken Jennings as a host, you can tell he's having fun and simply loves the game.

See above for a manufactured example of how one admits an error before continuing the conversation instead of doubling down on how the error they made couldn't possibly be their fault. It's a simple maneuver and gains or maintains respect.

Ken is a good host, but I liked Mayim better.

Amy is a terrific contestant. It does seem there are more long winning streaks than usual this season.

Ratings tend to go up when there's a contestant with a streak. Perhaps the new producers have figured out a way, based on their test scores, to continually schedule a really high test scorer against much lower test scorers to increase the chances in streaks to occur.

As stated earlier, hearing the voice of the person in the background on the television, I had no idea of the gender pronoun that the contestant prefers to be called by. I had no prior knowledge about the contestant until I looked it long after I viewed the episode. I understand the contestant was born male but identifies as being female. I don't have any issue with it whatsoever and hope she continues to do well on the show as I enjoy seeing these streaks occur. But you are continuing to post about thin trying to create drama where none was ever intended by me. Move on!!

I think my last post was snarky and I'm sorry about that. Here's what I'm trying to get at, please hear me out.

You made an error and you explained what happened that led to the error. But it also comes off like you can't bring yourself to say "Oops." And to me, "Oops" can go a long way.

I mean, misgendering a person who is transgender isn't a little thing. It can be the cause of a lot of pain for people. I 100% take you at your word that you didn't know Amy is not a "guy." I don't doubt you on that, I really don't. But when the error was pointed out to you instead of admitting your error, you explained it away with no ownership for the error in the first place. You have a person who is transgender telling you how it came off. You have me telling you how it came off. You have other members "liking" those posts about how you came off. Adding a simple "Oops, my mistake," or "Sorry about that" to any of your next three posts can go a long way. It doesn't need to be, and really it shouldn't be, anything drawn out or a full-fledged treatise of apology. But a little "Sorry, Amy is having a good run" is fully appropriate. I'm not... the only person... who thinks this... a brief apology... is helpful...

Can you see where I'm coming from on this?

Dude explained why he made the error. All these snarky comments would be better served as DMs to the user, no? At this point you are the one drawing out this drama and all over a simple mistake and an assumption.

I'd wager that the people who have been watching Jeopardy probably read this post:

as a blatant dig at the contestant in question.

I haven't watched Jeopardy in several weeks, but it seems like if someone had those figures ($61,000 today and $500,000 over twelve wins") they've been watching it would know the gender of the contestant they were referring to. And if you haven't been watching and only picked up this information secondhand, it's also a big assumption to assume that it was man and not a woman who had a good run.

Maybe movieguru is on the level with what he claims happened (it happens), but it does seem suspect to jump into a thread and refer to a transwoman as "this guy/he."

That's how I read it, and if it was wrong to jump to the conclusion that it was intentional, it's just because I have read too many other things like it that absolutely were intentional slights. If it was an honest mistake, I apologize for jumping on you, but I'm very emotional right now, and it set me off.

Considering he explained why he came to that conclusion, why not give him the benefit of the doubt? The alternative is for a mod to harp on it for days with snarky, petty comments rather than address the issue properly.

My father had a nickname of 'The Professor' but he was not an actual professor, nor was he on Jeopardy!

He also wasn't much of a father, so at least he was consistent.
