A single woman living alone at the time would likely draw even more attention. For the sake of her cover as a female agent, the living accommodations make sense. She was obviously gonna buck the trend but she felt bad about brushing off Fonseca.

Ratings were down again for Tuesday night episode. That's too bad.

My sister went to college in 75. Back then, no one of the opposite sex allowed in the dorms except for daylight hours, 9 - 5

I went to Catholic school, so it was much more strictly enforced who could be where when, but some colleges I've heard about are amazingly liberal about it. I guess it just depends. It the 21st century now, for better or worse . Obviously, those were the normal social mores of the day in the highly-conservative time this show depicts. "The good old days," as everyone over 40 keeps telling me .

I went to a public college in the nineties. You can probably guess which one based on my avatar. There was at least one dorm that was for girls only, but the rest were co-ed. I had girls directly across the hall from me. It's pretty common. There's no way you could keep anyone out of anyone else's room if they wanted to be there.

A crazy thought I had is that every girl in the building is a spy, or prospective spy, and the "house mother" is keeping an eye on them and evaluating them for a larger organization.

That's probably reading WAY too much into it though.

Now I want to see a show where Stark and Jarvis are bosom buddies trying to hide out there together.

I was thinking the same thing.

I think the showrunners thought they would get a lot of laughs from the dated cultural stereotype of the house mother, but it's an annoying storyline in what is supposed to be a serious spy show.

I'm loving the series, and I don't have any strong opinions on the house or mother, but I don't think of this is a serious spy show at all.

Remember, Stark did offer her a free place to live. In luxury too. So she must really value Fonseca's friendship.

Well that was simply because she couldn't risk any ties to Stark.

And yeah, I don't see this as a serious spy show either.

This show is pretty expensive to produce too, I would imagine.

I think I have a pretty good idea.

It's not who's there, it's what they were doing that I think was of worry to the faculty. That kind of thing isn't anything new-wild frat stereotypes go back to the Animal House days-but the "hookup culture" moral panics which have spread about lately make the show look even more quaint. The 21st century, for better or worse, I suppose. Socks on the door .

They probably don't have that plotted out. I think the idea was just that it was supposed to be local color.

Like Agents of SHIELD did early on, I get the sense that this show is meandering, and it's supposed to be a very short miniseries too. Even with the high production values, without the big set pieces which sell the Marvel movies, it sounds like their TV stuff has been drawing less interest from the mainstream without capes and tights.

Stuff I enjoy about the show, but I find the superhuman girl power combat exhausting.

Most men can't one-punch people the way they do in action movies/series either. In the case of a show like this, I can suspend disbelief in terms of hand-to-hand combat strength.

Yeah. The tone fits her actions well.

I can't stop loving this thing. Was totally expecting Peggy having to take down that guy. Didn't expect for that girl to reveal herself like that. Whatever and whoever she is. Peggy Carter is wildly more interesting than the Agents of SHIELD.

If you can sucker punch them and get the head to snap back, it short circuits the signals to the brain and they'll go down like a sack of bricks. They'll also come right back though. Nearly impossible to put someone out with one punch unless you are a Mike Tyson or they hit their head on the way down.

Modern television loves writing lead female characters as if they were men. They saw the success of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with its superpowered female lead and took the wrong ideas from it. That is the one show largely responsible for the trend.

Sometimes its overdone but who wants to watch a story about an average at best lead. If they are underachievers it is usually a comedy.

With regards to Carter, I imagine it has less to do with something like Buffy and more to do with the fact that it's still a freakin' comic book show

I think so too. It's my only explanation for Fonseca who is being wasted if there is nothing deeper to her character than annoying friend.

i like the production values and actors in the show but i feel the current story has no direction
