I record either 2 NBA or 2 NHL games each night(usually late games) and watch them in the morning.

The reason I have Direct TV and Charter is I had Century Link for internet(and phone) and the price became too high(plus they didn't have ESPN 3) and I switched back to Charter and got all three as a bundle(Cable,Voice,Internet) for almost the same price as Century Links Internet(and phone).

It would be nice to have but I don't think I'd bother. It isn't a problem often enough to pay extra for all that storage.

Why don't people with no DVR capability just buy a cheap gizmo like WinTV so they can record OTA broadcasts on their computers?

Maybe they don't know about DVR's that can record and playback OTA broadcast on their TV, with no monthly fee. I have Philips and Magnavox DVR's that do that in standard def, and a Channel Master with dual tuners that records and plays back in HD. With the Philips/Magnavox machines you can record to hard drive or DVD, then dub to the other format.

While I don't use it, Verizon has their Quantum DVR plan that enables up to 12 recordings at once.

6 for me. Tivo can record 4 and Comcast DVR can record 2.

How much TV per day do we watch that we need multiple DVRs? Don't forget that sitting is the new smoking, worse according to some, so make sure you're watching while working out!

Plenty. I tend to record entire seasons of shows then binge watch whatever I end up liking. I do my recording on my PC so storage space isn't an issue.

I am single and living on my own, so of course one DVR is good enough for me. But I imagine a family of four could get good use out of multiple DVRs.

Only 3. One DVR with a dual-tuner and the other is only single. Have had this set-up for the past 5 years and has pretty much met my needs.

For people that have multiple DVRs, how does that work exactly? Do you have to go to a certain TV to watch shows on one DVR and then go to another TV to watch shows on your other DVR? Or can you one DVR's content from the other? I have a single DVR but can basically watch it from any TV I choose.

Just two. Occasionally it leads to scheduling conflicts, but I just record a later viewing of one of the problematic shows.

Yeah, I have 2 DVRs, but don't have them synced together. This actually works out okay for me since I watch a few more shows than my wife, I record those on the 2nd DVR in the basement. The shows that we watch together, typically get recorded in the family room, which is where we spend most of our time.

I have Whole-Home DVR service so the DVRs are networked together and I can watch any show from any DVR in the house. I have 3 DirecTV DVRs so I can theoretically record 6 shows at one time (they are both dual-tuners).

The only limitation is that you have to set recordings on the current DVR you are using (or use the DirecTV app.) You also can't see what will be recorded (the ToDo List) on other DVRs, only the one you are using.

Supposedly I can upgrade to a Genie which can replace some of these DVRs I have,but I have not gotten around to doing that yet. They offered me a free upgrade in November, but I had a lot of backlog to watch and didn't want to replace any of my DVRs yet. I watched through the backlog over Christmas, but I bet now if I call again, they won't offer me the free upgrade.

The Genie is really awesome. Only catch for the "Free Upgrade" is a new 2 year contract. But, I pretty much can record everything I want with no DVR conflicts with the 5 tuners and it has plenty of space. I think it's like 200-300 hours of content.

It must be really tough to maintain two independent recording schedules. I used to have to do that when I only had two ReplayTVs, but I think you could schedule something to record from another unit.

Another stupid question for Tivo owners. I always see Tivo people saying that they "gave a show a season pass" but I can put my finger on what they're talking about. It sounds like to me they are saying they want their Tivo to skip recording a show for a season, but I'm not sure that's right as they seem to be saying it for shows they watch. So what is meant when a show is "given a season pass"?

Really? You don't know what season pass means?

A season pass is recording all the "new" episodes for whatever show you decide to commit watching an entire season for.

On Directv's Genie, they allow you to have 100 season passes.

It's a pass like a ticket or permit, not passing up on a show for a season.

So every time a new season starts for a show you watch, you have to go in and "give" that show another season pass for the new season? That seems like a big hassle. I'm used to being able to set a series recording for a show and it will record it forever even across new seasons.

All this talk about multiple DVRs and Tivos makes me wonder if people are unaware of multituner devices like Ceton's InfiniTV 6.

DTV Genie plus a standard DVR box, so I believe 7 total at a time.
