Thanks, I had no idea. Granted I don't buy nearly as much physical media as I used to, but I'm still fairly plugged in so I consider that a marketing fail. The Amazon page appears to show that they published it themselves so maybe that's part of it. I don't know how much they push it into physical retail stores. I've heard that bookstores don't like the Amazon publishing imprint, but I would guess they're more territorial than home video.

Netflix is doing the same (ie: Crouching Tiger 2), Amazon will likely run into the same resistance that they're running into.

I'm surprised that Google or Yahoo haven't started their own sports networks(streaming or otherwise). I think Yahoo does produce a sports talk show on CSN Bay Area,

There is nothing new in the world ... Blockbuster did this back in their day.

I would imagine the theatrical release is nothing more than a marketing campaign to raise awareness for the eventual home video options. Magnolia did something like this for their movies, though their theatrical micro releases were meant to promote the DVD and Blu-ray.

Basically. On The Movie Crypt Podcast a week or so ago they talked about how theatrical releases for smaller independent films are mainly being used as marketing for the VOD release.

The movie library of Netflix is no longer actually a good substitute for a good movie rental place
