The Flash (S1E02) -- "Fastest Man Alive" -- 10/14/14
"Fastest Man Alive" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, LV) (HDTV)
BARRY HAS FUN WITH HIS NEW POWERS BUT A SETBACK MAKES HIM QUESTION HIS ABILITY TO BE A HERO - Barry (Grant Gustin) escorts Iris (Candice Patton) to a university gathering honoring scientist Simon Stagg (guest star William Sadler). When six gunmen storm the event, Barry changes into The Flash and tries to stop them. While he does save a man's life, he passes out before he can capture the robbers, which frustrates him. As Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh), Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) scramble to find out what's wrong with Barry, Joe (Jesse Martin) comes down hard on Barry for taking the law into his own hands and risking his life. Barry realizes that it wasn't six gunmen but a metahuman named Danton Black (guest star Michael Christopher Smith), who can make multiples of himself. Meanwhile, Iris becomes even more intrigued by the "red streak."
David Nutter directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg & Geoff Johns (#102). Original airdate 10/14/2014.

I liked it. Nothing to deep just some good old comic goodness. The only thing I didn't care for was how the clone guy was handled. If the clones could clone and if he could control them from far away why was the guy personally there? He could of waited a few blocks awa.

I thought it was a pretty great episode for so early in this show's history, especially that ending. Simon Stagg is a well-known character in DC Comics. It took about 10-12 episodes before Arrow found its footing.
I love the direction they've taken with Barry's character. He's not the tortured, grim avenger so common to modern superheroes, despite having a traumatic experience in his childhood. There really isn't much I would change this early in the game. If anything, they've skipped his origins phase fairly quickly and now it's waiting time until we start getting Flash's Rogues Gallery.
There is one classic power we haven't seen yet from the Flash I definitely hope they include...

Only gripe I had about the episode was the cloning. I dont like when clothing is cloned.
It would have been better to have the guy clone in a warehouse or something and show all the clones and then have them go out.
Other than that I enjoyed the episode. Typical superhero issues and 'missions' but I'll take it.

Yeah, the cloning process was a little too clean. I think everything we've seen so far indicates this show is going to revel in a comic book ethos. If you can't eventually handle time travel as a plot device, this is not the show for you.

Enjoyed this episode.
The cloning man was pretty cool. But I liked that this showed how Barry has a lot of vulnerability. He's fast and utilizes his speed well, but he sucks at hand to hand combat. He got his ass kicked a few times here. He's not some badass brooding martial arts warrior like Oliver Queen.
The Harrison Wells character is interesting. They hinted at something dark in the Pilot, now we know he's some kind of villain in disguise.
Man, Bill Sadler is one busy character actor. He guest starred here, guest starred on The Blacklist, Madam Secretary, From Dusk Till Dawn, Hawaii Five-O, Elementary and Homeland all in the last year.

That's why I thought his fight scenes were stupid. Letting yourself get surrounded should be impossible with his powers. I hate fake drama. Flash is like Superman in many ways, plausible threats require he either act stupid or be subject to deus ex machina (Kryptonite).

I'm also hoping not everyone that gained power are villains. Next week will make three people that got abilities that were either bad already or took the dark path.
It bugged me when I was watching it as I keep thinking...he's TOO fast for this to happen! He can clone himself, that is it, he is no faster then normal and even if he was twice as fast that means nothing.
Yeah, not a fan of fake drama or making characters not do something they can or should because the story says so. It's best for it just not to be an option. If this case they did show his speed like a minute later and how slow the clones go.

I'm not so sure he's evil, we know he's a time traveler of some sort, especially with his name. He may be a Rip Hunter/Booster Gold type trying to keep time from going goofy, just doing it a bit more extremely. Then again, he could be evil and I'm just in denial about Ed being a bad guy.

Nice rip off of Jaime Madrox Multiple Man from the X-Men. I don't know that I liked this episode as much as the pilot, but I did enjoy it. Fascinated by where the thing with Wells is going. Also agree with those who think Flash is too fast to get overwhelmed. Although this is a brand new Flash who hasn't mastered his powers.

Liked the episode, but the bad of the week this time reminded me too much of Mr. Smith. And then you have the unexplained way they suppoedly hid this one from the public that is supposedly not yet aware of meta-humans. Super hero movies seem to work better when the public is aware that super heroes and super villains exist.

Loved this episode as much as the pilot. I'm really digging this show. I agree that it didn't seem like he should be able to be overwhelmed and that the clones reminded me of the Matrix: Reloaded scenes, but sometimes you have to go with it. Still willing because the show's great--especially the lead.

I didn't have a problem with the brawl. He's still figuring out his powers, and he doesn't know how to fight either.
I like the show's pace. I was afraid his symptoms were going to be drawn out over several episodes - nope, it's the classic "Flash needs to eat a lot!".

Speaking of which...Danton Black is Multiplex, a Firestorm villain. And yes, Multiplex was created after Jamie Madrox, but only by a few years, 1978 vs 1975. Caitlin is also destined to become Killer Frost, another Firestorm villain and clear rip off of Iceman from the X-Men.
