Gotham (S1E3) - "The Balloonman" - 10/6/2014

Synopsis:
A vigilante goes after corrupt Gotham citizens and kills them by hooking them up to weather balloons. Elsewhere, Oswald Cobblepot returns to the city and aligns himself with a powerful ally.
Episode 3 of 16
I still need to watch last week's episode but will probably watch it and this one's back to back.

I'm really liking this---it's pretty much just what I was hoping for from this show. I'm not a major comics guy, but I've been a casual reader of Marvel and DC for a long time, and to me Gotham captures the DC vibe more than Agents of Shield captures the Marvel vibe.

Weird episode. Kinda boring but better acting than previous episodes. Show is best when its not trying to shoehorn Bruce or "Cat" down the audience's throat.

The Bruce Wayne stuff is kind of annoying. Yeah, we get it....he's going to become Batman. Hopefully they explore the lesbian subplot a little further. Other than that, this was an ok episode.

"Roll the camera."
You don't really "roll" a digital camera. Just saying.
That pig mask sort of has a You're Next-Broken Path-type look.
Is Bullock this amoral in the comics? I get that he's jaded, but he seems outright indifferent sometimes.
Can you REALLY pick a lock with a pen? Between her and Hannibal Lecter, I'm amazed that anyplace has security which holds anyone.
"And here I thought my partner had actually done some legwork."
Nice.
I like this tough but sensitive interpretation of Alfred. Actor is great.
Barbara is all-but walking around naked, fan service much? I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that that actress is a model?
I'm liking this show so far, but sort of feels like another gritty police procedural. That's not a bad thing and like it, it just isn't standing out so far.
Why the hell is Barbara doing drugs? Was she supposed to be smoking weed or something? Apparently she's an old fling of Montoya's who's not been straight with Jim about her proclivities?
I'm assuming Penguin's arc will run through the whole season and he'll be set up as a crime boss for season two.
Kind of like the moral ambiguity about a guy guy killing bad guys and the moral grey area Gordon has to learn to accept. No doubt they'll tie it into the "need" for Batman's vigilantism, they basically said that outright with Bruce in the final scene.
"Hoisted by your own petard!"
What in the nine circles of Dante's hell does that mean? That was an awfully short fall.
Falcone isn't stupid, Fish. He knows damn well what you did. You're playing a dangerous game.

Balloonman vigilante plot was meh. This was mostly a pretty standard procedural case of the week episode.
The stuff with Penguin was pretty good and seeing him pop in unexpectedly at the end to see Gordon.
Biggest and best revelation, Barbara and Montoya were once a thing.

the penguin scenes continue to be a highlight..
i liked the balloonman storyline and the whole idea of vigilantism, and don't mind how the kid is soaking all of that on...
really digging the look and vibe of this show, really pleasantly surprised...

Just finished this episode. I liked how the vigilante plot was tied into the previous episode. I was surprised at the end when the Penguin showed up at Gordon's apartment.

I keep expecting Fish to roll her R's. Jada's laying it on pretty thick at times.

Man, you guys must all be on the spectrum* because I thought it was blatantly obvious what was going on and I only sort of half pay attention when watching this show.
*not that that there's anything wrong with that.

Whether it was obvious or not, I think most of us agree that we'd like to see further developments in this subplot. And preferably flashbacks......

Probably the worst episode of the 3. Main plot was sort of boring. The stuff with the Penguin was more interesting. And yes, more of the Barbara-Montoya subplot.
David Zayas seemed to have gained a lot of weight since I last saw him Dexter.

Catch all THE SHADOW references?
The last name of the vigilante was Lamont.
The last name of the dirty cop who took a balloon ride was Cranston.
The vigilante was dressed as The Shadow when he cuffed the cop to the balloon, and ran away doing The Shadow laugh.
