SPECIAL SERIES PREMIERE PREVIEW
JOIN DR. HENRY MORGAN AS HE SEARCHES TO SOLVE THE PERPLEXING MYSTERY OF HIS IMMORTALITY, ON ABC'S NEW DRAMA SERIES, "FOREVER"
The Captivating Series Kicks Off Premiere Week with Two New Episodes on Two Nights - The Special Preview of the Premiere on Monday, September 22, and a Second, All-New Episode on Tuesday, September 23
What if you could live forever? Would you find it a blessing or a curse? Meet Dr. Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd), New York City's star medical examiner who has an unusual secret. He doesn't just study the dead to solve criminal cases -- he is trying to solve a mystery that has eluded him for over 200 years: his own inexplicable immortality, on ABC's new drama, "Forever," which will be kicking off premiere week with two new episodes: a special preview of the premiere, on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), and a second, all-new episode on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), for its regular time period premiere, on the ABC Television Network.
In the premiere episode, "Pilot," Dr. Henry Morgan's exciting, adventurous and intriguing long life has blessed him with amazing insight and observational skills. So, when Henry and Detective Jo Martinez (Alana De La Garza) investigate a fatal subway collision, Jo not only is impressed, but her curiosity is peeked about who he is. Meanwhile, Henry soon discovers someone else knows his secret. He may not be the only "immortal" out there. But who is that person and what does he want? The one person who can inject hope into Henry's life is Abe (Judd Hirsch), his best and only friend. Fate has brought the two men together and they share an unconventional bond. It's just part of the captivating mystery surrounding Henry's strange circumstances and his long search to uncover the cause of his condition and escape.
Henry and Jo combine to make a powerful crime fighting team. Each week, a new case and their budding friendship will peel back the layers of Henry's colorful extraordinary past. Henry, with his charming wit, charisma and an eerie knowledge not just of police procedure but the whole culture, finds an apt collaborator in Jo. Her personal history thrust her into law enforcement, making her an outstanding cop who can connect with the criminal mentality. They both are hiding pieces of their lives and both have lost a great love, albeit Henry's stretches back some years. Henry met his beloved Abigail during World War II. On the other hand, Jo lost her husband a year-and-a-half ago. She finds a sympathetic ear in Henry, but his "Sherlockian" perception and his straight forward, no nonsense approach to people both fascinates and frustrates her. How does this man know so much? Will she discover who the real Henry is?
"Forever" stars Ioan Gruffudd ("Fantastic Four") as Henry, Judd Hirsch ("Taxi," "Damages," "Maron") as Abe, Alana De La Garza ("Law & Order") as Detective Jo Martinez, Lorraine Toussaint ("Orange is the New Black") as Lt. Joanne Reece, Donnie Keshawarz ("Homeland," "The Wolf of Wall Street") as Detective Hanson and Joel David Moore ("Bones," "Avatar") as Lucas.
Guest starring are Barbara Eve Harris as Lt. Roark, Mackenzie Mauzy as Abigail and Lee Tergesen as Hans Koehler.
"Forever" was created by Matt Miller ("Chuck," "666 Park Avenue," "Human Target"). Miller, Dan Lin ("Sherlock Holmes," "Gangster Squad") & Jennifer Gwartz ("Veronica Mars," "Cupid," "Party Down") are executive producers. The pilot was written by Miller and directed by Brad Anderson, who was also an executive producer. "Forever" is produced by Warner Bros. Television and is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format with a 5.1 channel surround sound.
Currently slated for 13 episodes. 2 episodes air this week. Tonight and Tomorrow. No weekly threads for this as well. Only a select amount of shows will be getting weekly treatment.

smells like an Elementary rip-off with a twist. I do like the twist however, so I'll give it a shot, but I somehow doubt that this show survives more than a season. I think the timeslot (10pm) is tough.

This flew under my radar, but I'm a sucker for time travel and immortality shows so I'm in. Seems like a cross between New Amsterdamn and Sherlock.

I'm going to give this a try. I like shows about immortality and I also watched New Amsterdam and Highlander. The premise of this show also reminds me of Forever Knight. There was a book called Forever by Pete Hamill about an immortal character living in NYC. Hamill sued FOX and others when New Amsterdam was on the air because of similarities between the show and his book. Just this past week, there are few articles that have mentioned that Forever has similarities to Hamill's book, but Hamill doesn't plan to file suit this time around.

Hopefully it won't have a voice over on every episode otherwise good.
Judd Hirsch is the taxi driver.
Looked for a minute that the villain was going to be Mr. Glass

I really enjoyed this one - thought it was very entertaining. Not sure on the casting the of the female cop (seems like they could have gotten someone more charismatic) but so far, I am in for the season.

I just posted in the Gotham thread that it was about the only new show I was looking forward to. I forgot about this. I like the concept, and hope they can pull it off.

I agree, I found her to be the weak link in the pilot. Overall, I liked the pilot, as previously stated it is similar to other shows. At the end, I was surprised when they revealed how Judd Hirsch's character was connected to Henry. It looks the blonde wife will be appearing in flashbacks in other episodes. I also like that subplot of another immortal being onto Henry.

Sort of inconvienent that he dies and then disappers and then reapears in a body of water. Can't follow the reasoning for that. I do understand that when he was killed the first time that he has thrown into the Atlantic but still don't understand the reasoning for this method of resurrection and I would think it would be very hard to explain. For instance, he dives off roof and lands on a car roof thus destroying the car but when anyone arrives to the scene, his body is gone and he reappears in the nearest body of water? So now there is a mystery which the cops will have to try to solve. What if someone sees his dead body and then it vanishes and then they meet him on the street the next day? Pretty strange.
And about the water appearance, is it that he apears in the nearest large body of water or would a big puddle do? Or does it have to be a flowing body of water? So many questions, so few answers. But I do realise that this was only the first show and I will be sticking around to see more.

A pleasant surprise, so if it makes the ratings cut over the next week or two, it will remain on my Tivo as a season pass. I was hoping it would not be boring, and fortunately the pacing was such that it held my attention from start to finish (what I am trying to say is that unlike what Falling Skies has turned into, background viewing while I play an infinite level on plants vs zombies 2, I actually want to pay attention to everything on the screen).

Just finished watching this. Pleasantly surprised. This was actually quite entertaining. Reminded me a lot of New Amsterdam with some touches of Bones and Sherlock Holmes.
Good pacing. Wasn't bored even one second. That opening train crash was pretty spectacular. Gruffudd is very charismatic and charming as Henry. I know Alana de la Garza from Law and Order and have always liked it. Of course her being really attractive helps. I have no complaints about her.
Anyone who also watched The Blacklist last night noticed that Lee Tergesen was in both shows last night in the same timeslot? He played the villain here, but had a small part on The Blacklist.
I like shows like this. Hopefully it does well in its regular timeslot and sticks around awhile.

Perhaps a swimming pool is large enough. Plenty of places on earth where there's nothing larger within a hundred miles.

Pretty good, though him being a know-it-all might get kind of old (hate that with crime dramas), though with hundreds of years of experience, I guess that's understandable.
And Alana is so fine to look at. Enjoyed her role in L&O. Much better than the 2 preceding ADAs.
Having an equal foil kind of reminded me of Tru Calling once they added Priestly as the villain.

Enjoyed this and will keep watching. I do wish the mystery person on the phone had been left out. I think that would have been a much more interesting slow reveal in the background. However, if does beg 'm ore questions - how long has the person been alive for? Are they older than Henry? Do they come back in the same manner (water) or something less friendly (fire)?
Question on pilot - when he came out of the police office in the borrowed clothes and saw the blond across the street, wa that they lady from the flashbacks who we hadn't seen yet at that point, or was he seeing the lady from the subway?
