Re: The Greatest American Hero -- Pilot ordered at FOX -- From Phil Lord & Chris Mill

It's all about the chemistry for this one. But like some of the other posters, it would be a mistake to turn this into a comedy. The original had laughs, but it was primarily a drama.

You know what a really good idea would be? To have William Katt in the Robert Culp role...not as an agent, but as a mentor to the new guy with the suit...and to have Katt play Ralph Hinkley, passing the suit down. They tried with with "The Greatest American Heroine" pilot (although Culp was still going to be the mentor) and while that pilot had problems, the idea of Hinkley passing the suit on to a new person was a nifty idea.

I like the idea of Katt being the mentor. Always liked him especially in the Ralph role. Not sure who they could get to play the new person but might be best to go unknown or at least relatively.

My favorite episode was the one with the haunted house where Ralph confronts a Demonic Ghost Dog and his suit doesn't work. This would be very difficult to get correct, tone wise.

I don't mind Katt showing up in a token support role but his days as a network actor are over. The tone will be very tricky, audiences demand so much more these days from superhero fare than what they did in 1980. I would probably go with a light adventure show that is equal parts comedy and drama.

Hannah Simone has been cast as Meera, the Indian-American lead of ABC’s The Greatest American Hero reboot.

Agreed. She was one of the very few good things about New Girl.

The Pilot is now being produced at ABC, not FOX

Also, Lord and Miller aren't involved anymore. The creative team behind this worked on Fresh off the Boat. Thread title needs an update.

When they mentioned the character description being a 30-something Indian woman a few weeks ago, Simone was the 1st one to cross my mind. Plus, she's available since New Girl is done. Tall and hot with Indian ancestry.

This concept sounds iffy to me. I don't know if it will be good enough to get greenlit past the Pilot.

Re: The Greatest American Hero remake ordered at ABC

although I loved this series back when it aired it did not hold up well against the test of time. I rewatched the pilot a year or so back and really felt no need to continue on watching it... IDK if this one is worth resurrecting and to change up like this.... Might watch the premiere but I don't know if I would stick around even for eye candy....

Honestly, I'm hard pressed to think of many series from that time period that still hold up (as in, I'd watch them over my current backlog even without the draw of nostalgia)

Agreed. The original had a charm and innocence that's surely hard to capture in today's post-irony culture. And what a positive, contagious theme song!

Sounds like this is not going forward at ABC.

Re: The Greatest American Hero remake ordered at ABC

Apparently one of the reasons ABC passed was because they didn't feel the comedy fit the brand. DUH. We could have told them that from the beginning.
