According to that article his agent pushed for him, and he himself required that he get to dance. So it seems like he's interested.

Doesn't have the same feel as TSOM did last year.
Williams seemed to lose her breath in that first song.
Sound was crisp and clear this is very soft focus.

This is better by default, since Carrie Underwood is a terrible actress.

Tiger Lilly's tribe went from being Native Americans to being Avatar cast rejects (minus blue skin)

It didn't feel like I was watching a live show.

there were a couple technical glitches, but on the whole it was quite remarkable how kinetic it was filmed in terms of the swirling cameras and all.
BUT ...
the original 1954 telecast according to wiki was 90 minutes not counting the commercials - how the hell did it get expanded to nearly three hours WITH commercials - it seemed to go on and on... my biggest gripe with this 'live tv event'.

I was impressed by most of the wire "flying" work but aside from that I thought it was dreadful. Stiff acting and stiff choreography.
The girl who played the young Wendy was pretty cute though. That's something.

I liked "The Sound of Music" last year very much, despite Underwood's lack of acting talent. I gave up on this one halfway through. Ms. Williams was just terrible in every way. She has no star presence or charisma whatsoever. How did she get cast? Does Brian Williams have some dirt on the heads of NBC? Or did he threaten to quit his news post if they didn't cast her? And Walken was terrible also. He seemed to be treating this as a run-through instead of an actual live performance.

I did not watch this but seen the ads for it over the past couple of weeks. It looked weird as shit as Walken looked really friggin creepy as Captain Hook.
Oh, and i generally hate musicals.

I watched this for a little while last night. My wife kept waking me back up.
Why do they always pick women to play Peter Pan? Is it just that no male actors will do it?

I thought Williams did a good job, but Walken seemed to be reading off of a tele prompter. I mean the inflection of his voice did not change.
I remember being kind of scared of Captain Hook in the cartoon and in books as a little kid. I would think walken would bring some of that to the character for adults - given all of the good roles he has played in the past.
It did seem to go on 4-ever... but at the end of the show I said to my GF "they did a great job for a live show" and she replied, "That was a live broadcast???!?!?" So they did a great job.

I think Peter being an actress and Mr Darling/Mr Smee being the same actor are both out of tradition, not necessity.
There are plenty of twinks in Hollywood/Broadway who can play Peter (they had males playing the Lost Boys after all) and with a budget like yesterday's they didn't have to make actors double up on roles unless they intentionally wanted to.

NBC broke the tradition in half: Mr. Darling is played by the same actor who plays Captain Hook. Its supposed to be for symbolism or some such metaphoric lesson. I'm assuming due to Walken's advanced age, the producers chose to have Smee and Mr. Darling played by Christian Borle.
