Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life wasn't a great show or anything but showed more promise than most freshman comedies these days. The cast is great.
Disney canceling the Muppets would pretty much mean the end of that brand on network television forever. I know the ratings have been rotten and they have no faith in the showrunners, but I think it still comes back for branding reasons.

FYI
Stay away from the website TVBYTheNumbers.com
Unless you want to torture yourself with stupid commentary about all these renewals and cancellations. I really really hate that site and all the dumb commentators on it.

Chicago Justice starring Philip Winchester picked up to series by NBC. It's a spinoff of Chicago PD.

The Grinder, Grandfathered, Bordertown and Cooper Barrett all got the axe by FOX.

I believe a streaming place will look into picking up The Grinder. It's the perfect property for a Hulu or Netflix.

However, from a business standpoint, they had to cancel it. It's ratings were approaching hash marks. Last episode that aired (the finale) got 1.5M viewers. That's horrendous for a major network TV show.

Comedy is so hit or miss. If it doesn't hit it out of the ball park right away like say a Modern Family, it's DOA.

I know The Grinder was a pretty underrated comedy and liked by a lot.

Nicole Beharie killed off any remaining interest I had in the show.
It's funny how some shows just skate by with bad ratings and others get shot down as fast as they can.

Sad about Undateable.. I actually liked that show (in the same vein as Happy Endings, The Class, and Scrubs).
Very surprised about Sleepy Hollow... now I guess I need to finish watching the last 6 episodes of this season.

Networks are now looking for hits. Anything with weak ratings got killed off this year without a second thought. I think we are going to be seeing far more one-season shows going forward.
Network ratings are so anemic that it doesn't pay to keep a show around unless it's a proven winner out of the gate.

The fact that FOX kept Sleepy Hollow around for a 4th season just shows that "hits" is a truly relative term. Sleepy Hollow was a "hit" for maybe the first season. It has been pretty horrible ever since. Of course syndication money comes into play here, which is how this show gets another season. That, or the pitch for what will be another reboot was really strong.
And really, it's syndication money that plays into a lot of these network decisions these days. It's not about hits as much as it's about "can we squeeze 4 seasons out of this show before it becomes a ratings black hole?"
Castle cancelled by ABC. Mondays episode will be series finale. Wise move by ABC.

Re: The One and Only TV FAQ Thread Plus Renewal and Cancellation News
Networks have always looked for hits. And contrary to popular belief, shows that get time to find an audience have always been the exception rather than the rule. Stories of shows like Cheers and Seinfeld, which started off with lackluster or even awful ratings only to become huge hits are rare, and for the most part, limited to those two shows.

Regarding Sleepy Hollow, FOX has an exclusive license for the show on Hulu. Producing another 13-18 episodes for Hulu will be financially advantageous to them as opposed to dropping it even though the ratings cratered and it was moved to Friday.
