Power (Starz) - Series Discussion Thread
From Executive Producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and show creator Courtney Kemp Agboh ("The Good Wife") comes "Power", a visionary crime drama set in two different worlds – the glamorous New York club scene and the brutal drug trade. James “Ghost” St. Patrick has it all: a beautiful wife, a gorgeous Manhattan penthouse, and the hottest, up-and-coming new nightclub in New York. His club, Truth, caters to the elite: the famous and infamous boldface names that run the city that never sleeps. As its success grows, so do Ghost’s plans to build an empire. However, Truth hides an ugly reality. It’s a front for Ghost’s criminal underworld; a lucrative drug network, serving only the wealthy and powerful. As Ghost is seduced by the prospect of a legitimate life, everything precious to him becomes unknowingly threatened. Once you’re in, can you ever get out?
Season 1 consists of 8 episodes (2 left to air). Already renewed for a 10-episode second season.

I wanted to catch this but couldn't find a decent review on it to save my life. Since I have Starz I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, it's definitely not going to win any awards, but is entertaining and there's a decent amount of eye candy in nearly every episode.

Yes, I've been watching. Omari Hardwick, who plays the lead, used to be on the TNT series Dark Blue. He's really good in this. It's a pretty dark urban gangster drama. Diane Neal from SVU just guest starred recently. I believe Victor Garber was in the most recent episode that aired.
Thanks for starting this Geofferson. I wasn't sure if anyone was even watching this show since not many here get Starz and urban themed dramas in movies and TV don't get talked about much in this forum.

^ Same here. Agree, this show gets better as the season progresses. Was also a nice surprise seeing Sonya Walger show up as Simon Stern's wife -- I must have overlooked that casting announcement early on.
Next week's season finale is shaping up to be pretty good.

Definitely, love this show. But that season finally didn't feel like a season finally... but I can't wait for season 2 cause it should be the bomb! lol

Watched the season finale last night. Overall, this show was a pleasant surprise and will likely make my top 10 list for the year (barring an unexpected, exceptionally strong second half of 2014).
Closed out some loose ends, but left several things open to pursue next season. Glad we'll be getting 10 episodes next year instead of 8.

A good show that could be so much better with improved writing and more inspired ideas. The frequent out of character actions and asinine situations that occur is sometimes maddening, but overall I really enjoyed the first season. I expect this show to get better with time, and I'm eagerly anticipating the second season.

Re: Power (Starz) - Series Discussion Thread
For whatever reason, Power is still the anti-Empire. The public at large is largely unaware of it, and Starz doesn't have the market penetration of something like HBO (or even Showtime). I have Starz and I've seen the show pop up on the screen occasionally while flipping channels and I've still never watched an episode. I will, but I haven't. I haven't felt compelled to. It looks dark and brooding whereas Empire is part cartoon. Certainly that would seem to make Empire not as "serious" but it's easier to watch. And of course being on network TV brings the ratings.
I'll continue monitoring the thread though. Maybe something will happen that'll peak my interest. BTW, is there any music in this show? I assume it'd be hip-hop if so. Any good (as if the answer could be anything but subjective)? I know it has 50 cent associated with it, but he's really a lyricist, not musical.

The music soundtrack is a wide mix of urban music. Hip Hop is included, though the actual showrunners are a bit older and use a lot of older music as well. I thought the first season was pretty entertaining, it did hit Blu-ray in a solid set with nice A/V quality.
I think if one likes Empire, they'll probably like Power. Power is more of a straight drama and not the soap that Empire is at its heart. Empire is also centered around the music business. Power's main business is the drug game.

Re: Power (Starz) - Series Discussion Thread
Enjoyed the first season, I am still catching up on some other shows currently so I will probably let half of this season build up before I get into it.
I expected the DA to find out about who Ghost really is, but that didn't happen in season one. I am also concerned if 50 Cent has the acting chops to be the big bad, but that remains to be seen.

I've noticed that nearly every single saturday night on this channel has been nothing but a POWER marathon lately.
Alright, I guess I'll finally tune in then.
