Damien (A&E) -- Based on The Omen -- Series Thread -- Premieres 3/7/16

From comingsoon.net;

The Antichrist has found new life on the small screen. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Lifetime is developing a new series, "Damien," based on Richard Donner's 1976 horror classic, The Omen. Glen Mazzara is scripting and executive producing. An adult Damien will serve as the story's protagonist as he comes to grips with his demonic destiny.

The original The Omen was followed by three sequels (the last of which hit in 1991 as a television movie) and a big screen remake in 2006. A television series was previously planned in 1995, but failed to develop beyond the pilot stage (which itself had little connection to the franchise outside of the title).

Mazzara is no stranger to the world of horror. In addition to serving as former showrunner on "The Walking Dead," he's attached to provide the screenplay for Warner Bros. Pictures' proposed The Shining prequel, The Overlook Hotel.
I would probably give this a look. I liked much of Mazzara's work on The Walking Dead.

Glen Mazzara had a development deal with FOX. And most of you know The Omen is a FOX property. This is his 1st post-Walking Dead project.

I'm guessing Lifetime bought this because the lead character will be a woman...Probably Damien's mother. Lifetime's dramas are most centered around female lead characters.

This seems like it could go either way. On the one hand I thought Bates Motel would be shit but it's actually turned out to be a decent series, but the main drawback to this series for me is the fact it's on Lifetime.

It's only in development right now. Mazzara is still writing it and a Pilot hasn't been greenlit yet. It could take 6 months to 1 year before they even start shooting this.

My favorite parts of the movies were in number 2 with Damien realizing who we really was and coming into his power. I could see a series like that, done as well as Bates Motel or Hannibal, being very good. The Lifetime network aspect does not give me much hope though.

Yeah, this show needs to be balls to the wall with ultraviolence. I don't see that happening on Lifetime.

Certainly not balls to the wall... but maybe "clams to the wall".

Mazzara has been a good showrunner in the past. Lifetime has offered up decent content in the past two years, if you avoid their weekly movies. I believe the sequel to their Flowers In The Attic mini-series is airing this week.

Some of the Lifetime original shows are decent. I enjoyed Witches of East End, it wasn't extremely great, but it was a tad better than similar shows like Charmed. I'm looking forward to season 2 of that show, if a pilot of Damien gets filmed and there is a series order, I can see the show runners and writers doing their best to keep up with shows like American Horror Story, Bates Motel, etc.

Ah, but that's the problem, isn't it? When one formula succeeds (making an "origin story" TV series from a popular horror franchise), it isn't long before there's a slew of copycats.

On a related note, I just remembered that Lifetime annoucned a couple of years back that they were developing a TV show about young Clarice Starling from Silence of the Lambs. My guess is that pilot for that will never happen and maybe they are shifting the focus to developing Damien.

Makes me bummed they didn't pick up The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I would have watched Lifetime then.

We need Loaftime - TV for the unemployed.

It makes more sense to fold that storyline into Hannibal.

Ordered to series today before they even shot a pilot or cast anyone. Lifetime must have loved Glen Mazzara's pitch of the series.

Series will focus on an adult Damien.

However, only 6 episode order. Will air in early 2015.

It has to be better than Lifetime's wretched The Lottery.

Lifetime is developing a series based on The Omen? What the hell? In what universe is that a female TV station-centric film?

The story I read earlier said they are changing their focus a little and not necessarily greenlighting shows solely focused on women. Damien being the 1st.

Lifetime is already airing Witches of East End, which is a supernatural themed show. They obviously want to move somewhat away from always being known for the cheesy Lifetime movie of the week about a woman in peril.

Horror-lite and supernatural themes are very big in women's entertainment right now, mainly due to the success of Twilight.

Damien is switching networks. Moving from Lifetime to A&E

Also, A&E ordered 4 more episodes. The 1st season will now have 10 episodes.

If dex14 reads this, I think the thread title needs an update now.

I bet they will put on Mondays with Bates Motel. The Returned probably won't get renewed. The move to A&E could help in gaining viewers.

I feel pretty good about this now being on A&E rather than Lifetime. Bates Motel has turned into an awesome series and this could compliment it well if done right.

Hope they don't give Damien a brother who is saddled with some boring drug related storyline for three seasons.

I'm a little surprised. This looks like a follow up to the original The Omen movie. The trailer clearly shows images/footage of Gregory Peck and Lee Remick from the original film.

For those unaware, this is going to air in 2016. Probably being paired with Bates Motel.
