New promo

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qHQ87v6xfIk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Officially premieres March 7th after Bates Motel.

Definitely takes place in the same universe as The Omen movies. You clearly see photos and footage of Gregory Peck and Lee Remick.

They must be ret-conning the 3rd Omen movie with Sam Neill though. Because Damien was much older in that movie.

I think I'll pass on this. I'm starting to get overwhelmed with what I watch as it is.

This doesn't look very good at all.

I'm going to check it out. Not sure if it'll be good or not but I didn't expect much from Bates Motel before I watched it either.

I might check it out. As long as he doesn't start working with the FBI to solve murders or something.

It's not a police procedural. It's a "Sequel" to the 1976 "The Omen" film. Appears they are retconning the 2 feature sequels.

A sequel drama about what became of the evil child in another classic horror movie, the 1976 The Omen. The thriller series follows the adult life of Damien Thorn a world-renowned war photographer who gets his adrenaline fix by putting himself in extreme situations. He’s brilliant, rugged, and can charm his way into and out of any situation. He’s also running from the dark truth that has haunted him his whole life — that there’s something about him, something terrifying, that causes pain and death everywhere he goes. On his 30th birthday, his worst, buried memories spill forth and he must finally face the truth - that he and the evil forces protecting him were responsible for the deaths of his adoptive parents, that he is destined to be the Antichrist.
Only thing is Damien was how old in 1976? 5 or 6? Is this supposed to take place in 2001? Because he wouldn't be 30 in 2016.

Every review I have read has been awful. But I'll watch the pilot at least.

I had to watch because I'm a big fan of the original film and I liked how they actually used scenes from the movie to flesh out the backstory but I sure don't see this going anywhere good down the road.

Well I intended to watch this but forgot to set my DVR and with all the poor reviews maybe I'll just pass unless the later episodes get better reviews.

You do know that A&E re-airs the shit out of their shows and you can still DVR the first episode. I say you be the judge on the content. If you don't like it, move on.

Re: Damien (S1E01) -- Series Premiere -- "The Beast Rises" -- 3/7/16

Just finished it. Nowhere near as God awful as the reviews made it out to be. It's not great like Bates Motel, but it's not unwatchable by any means. But, it's a suspense show with religion as the backdrop, so that may be too heavy-handed for some.

I liked how they kept some continuity with the original film making references to events and also showing the flashback scenes with Gregory Peck and Damien as a boy. It helped flesh out some of the backstory.

I'm assuming that Barbara Hershey's character is some kind of guardian/protector of Damien similar to the one who committed suicide in the 1st film.

I was surprised they filmed off Damien's friend so early.

This is definitely more compatible with Bates Motel than The Returned from last year.

I thought it was alright. Some of it seemed a little drab and dull, but there were some scenes that stood out and had promise. I will give it a few more episodes to see if they get it together becaue there's 0 chance of me not watching Bates Motel before it anyway.,

so this ignores Omen 2 and 3 ? stupid

I'd much rather a sequel series to the original Nightmare on Elm street

I can't quite figure out why, but aside from the couple of "shits" said during this show, this totally felt like a CW show to me. And that's not a compliment. Having said that, I have too much on my plate TV-wise at the moment, and this just doesn't look interesting enough to stick around.

PhantomStranger 03-10-16 01:27 PM

Re: Damien (S1E01) -- Series Premiere -- "The Beast Rises" -- 3/7/16

As a huge fan of the original movie and the sequels, this was a very disappointing premiere up until the shocking twist death. That saved the pilot from being a disappointment for me but there were still major problems. I will stick around but I could understand others passing.

First problem, the guy cast as Damien simply doesn't work in the role. He seemed lost and dazed, without much of a stage presence. I would have cast a more devilishly handsome, slick lead.

Nothing against Glen Mazzara who has done fine work over the years, but the Christian dialogue was obviously written by a person that only had a passing familiarity with how devoutly religious Christians speak today. One or two lines were cringe worthy in their cadence and delivery. It probably would have behooved the producers to bring on a consultant for these things, it won't be the last time Christian references are mentioned.

As for the story, there were far too many flashbacks to the original movie. Did they get extra money every time a shot from the movie was shown? That is what it felt like. The pilot's basic story would have been much better off being decompressed over three or four episodes.

It wasn't an absolute disaster but I didn't see much in Damien that would interest non-horror fans. Hopefully this was just premiere jitters and it becomes a smoother, tighter experience.
