It didn't get much of a carry-over audience from BATES MOTEL. It pretty much bombed in the ratings.

I watched this on the A&E app and I didn't like it. It will probably be canned. It make kind of wish that A&E wouldn't have canned The Returned remake last year.

This wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be but it has some serious problems. Chief among them is the guy playing Damien. He's just there. Hes got like zero charisma or charm. The little kid playing the same role in the original Omen films did a much better job. He displayed his innocence and naiveté about who/what he is but at the same time the darkness that was just beneath the surface.

It was originally intended as a Lifetime show.

That makes sense, hopefully the material improves now they've introduced the main players.

The bit with the dogs were way over done.

Still not a great episode, but a definite improvement over the 1st episode. Damien showed a few signs of being interesting, and the more Barbara Hershey the better. Hope they continue along that path. The show could possibly be saved.

Re: Damien (S1E02) -- "Second Death" -- 3/14/16

Barbara Hershey has been the only watchable thing about Damien. Her character is creepier than Damien himself. I still haven't found it very watchable as a show.

The producers must get paid extra everytime they flash a clip from The Omen. It's a lame storytelling gimmick that reminds us we aren't watching the original horror classic with major stars.

Re: Damien (S1E02) -- "Second Death" -- 3/14/16

So we've see the dogs actively attacking people. But when someone is trying to kill Damien one stands in the middle of the street to divert a car? Wouldn't it have been a helluva lot more effective to just attack the guy?

PhantomStranger 03-17-16 12:46 PM

Re: Damien (S1E02) -- "Second Death" -- 3/14/16

I think it implies some sort of evil intelligence is guiding the dogs. Some find that more sinister than random dog attacks.

In the last ep did Ann admit to being Damien's real mother?

I think she treats him like a surrogate son. I don't think she gave birth to him.

Could be, but she only recently even made herself known to him. So I dont know how much of a surrogate she should see herself as. Its certainly a question now where before she was just a random sycophant.

Here is the exchange I'm talking about.

Ann: I was a good mother wasnt I?

other chick: Define good

Ann: I kept all the wolves at bay, I made it as normal a childhood as possible. After all this time just a step closer.

Ann has grown delusional in her handling of Damien. I guess I could see her being revealed as his mother, but why wouldn't she have already told him? When she revealed his childhood possessions to him would have been a perfect time for that revelation.

I just caught the finale. On the whole season was kinda boring. Not enough Ruttlage. The show took itself very seriously. Most of the characters including Damien weren't all that intriguing. Though after what happened in the last episode I would be interested in where they headed in a second season. Plus there aren't a lot of shows with a legitimate villain as a protagonist.

Re: Damien (A&E) -- Based on The Omen -- Series Thread -- Premieres 3/7/16

The show was pretty bad beyond Barbara Hershey and the old man from the Walking Dead. I'm so glad I started skipping the cop's scenes very early in the series. Many of these serialized shows become more watchable if you mentally start editing the series yourself and weed out the dumb side characters. They wanted to ground the series in the original movie but were afraid to expand the mythology much beyond it, which handicapped much of the possible horror and drama.

I will say the finale was unexpectedly over the top. I did not see Damien turning so quickly. It felt like a finale instead of a mere season ender.

I don't think there is any chance this is coming back. A&E is a picky network for their scripted content. It would have worked better in the Fall season. It never felt like a Spring show to me.

Re: Damien (A&E) -- Based on The Omen -- Series Thread -- Premieres 3/7/16

This show really became a chore to watch. I think they made a mistake making Damien so muted. I usually like Bradley James (in fact only watched for him), but the character itself was a real snooze most of the time. We would get flashes of life, but they would always be short lived.

That said, the finale was the most fun episode of the series. I enjoyed it. If it turns out to be a 1 season show, I guess it will have been worth watching. Not sure I would give a season 2 a chance though.

The power of Christ could not compel people to watch:

I know that's an Exorcist reference, but I'm using it anyway.
