I am back to working on completing my viewing of Major Dad, and I am about through with the first 1/4 of Season 3. So I have less than 2 seasons worth of eps to finish up. I said this already, but yes, this show has been a pleasant surprise to rewatch (I know I watched some of the show when it first aired, but I definitely do not remember watching seasons 3 and 4). It really comes down to the casting of the kids as they get a fair amount of air time and there was no kid that I particularly disliked on the show which helps big-time with my enjoyment of this sitcom.

Big Bang Season 12 Final Season. (HBO Max)

I stopped watching back in season 10. The show jumped the shark when Bernie got pregnant again. Decided to hate watch the rest just to see how it all ends. A few good episodes but it def. Outstayed it's welcome.

Rewatching The Sopranos for the third time. At this point, I've read and own probably close to 50 mafia books, so I get a ton more of the references and whatnot, so I still enjoy it. That said, I still cringe almost every time an AJ or Meadow story takes prominence. I could care less for those, especially the AJ ones. And it's not like Robert Iller is a bad actor (although I'd say he's not that great), but they're often poorly written in my mind. And I just turned onto Season Six: Part One and now I have to watch all these stupid, stupid dream sequences. Like, one of the few filmmakers that can actually make dream sequences work is David Lynch, and even he sometimes stumbles. I just thought David Chases's attempts were horrible (and I hated them the first time I saw them, too). So, I'm still gonna watch it to the end again, but these dream sequences really, really annoy me....and then we have the whole Vito plot to "look forward to"...NOT....that was one of the dumbest plots ever cooked up...but whatever...there's a reason why, while The Sopranos is still great, I'd easily rate Breaking Bad, Deadwood, The Wire, and even Carnivale above it...They stayed true to their convictions, The Sopranos didn't...

Squid Game and Midnight Mass for me. Really enjoyed both, Midnight Mass could have been trimmed down and been something of a mass appeal genre staple, but I actually enjoyed all the philosophizing in it.

While, after getting through the Vito storyline (which took up way too much screentime, in my mind), the season has picked up (Season Six Part One). And while Julianne Margulies is not one of my favorite actresses (although I thought she did a good job on ER), she surprised me with how good and effective she is on this show. She's solid. I still remember not being too enthusiastic for these last two 'half seasons" of the show, but I think that was largely due to the lengthy delay caused by the cast holding out. I thought that really hurt the show. Now, in hindsight? So far it's a decent season, but I'm looking forward to Part Two. I remember most of what is going to happen so I know what lays in store but I still look forward to those events...(i.e. Christopher, the "Shah", etc.)...

Squid Game

Seinfeld Seasons 1-9 since it hit Netflix. This was my fourth rewatch and it still holds up for me as the best Sitcom series.

I just finished Treadstone, Season 1. The series was canceled after the 1st season, so that's also the entire series. Some of it was too confusing to figure out what was going on, and there were too many subplots. It was good to see Michelle Forbes (actually, I just checked her imdb page and didn't realize how active she is).

ETA: Now starting Star Trek: Discovery Season 3.

Midnight Mass

Finished binging The Sopranos for probably the third or fourth time. I thought I enjoyed it even more this viewing, and I have gradually learned to appreciate the ending a lot, lot more. I was never one of those people that immediately expressed outrage and hated it, I just thought it was a bit pretentious the first time I saw it. Now? I can accept it and I kind of realize what David Chase was aiming at, so I have no real issue with it. Like they mention in interviews and commentaries, there really wasn't any way to end it that would satisfy everyone. The only issue I really have with the final season is the Vito storyline. I don't mind the plot, in general, I just felt a bit too much time was devoted to it, that's all. It felt like a "C story" that was elevated to a "B story", and that annoyed me, cause there was so much else going on in that final season that I just wanted the focus to be elsewhere.

That said, I then checked out every commentary track over the course of a few days and I'll make these points:

• They're mostly solo tracks, which is unfortunate, but at least most of the ones with the directors (like Tim Van Patten or John Patterson) or writers (I think Terence Winters does one) are pretty good for what they are, and impart a decent amount of information.
• The couple with actors/actresses aren't that great (Drea De Matteo does a solo one that's unfortunately kind of lacking), although Tony Sirico is on one track with two other participants , I believe, including one other actor and a writer or director, and he is f**king hilarious (just like he is in the show). I wish he was on more tracks.
• Bogdanovich does one solo track that will more than likely put you to sleep due to his dry monotone. Like, I knew going in what he sounded like, but he really needs another person to bounce stuff off of. Like, the track he did on the first episode with David Chase was much better, and yet both those guys are pretty dry speakers...
• David Chase typically would do a track for most of the finales or near-finales, and they are so-so. Usually he imparts a decent amount of information, but again, he can be a very, very dry speaker, and just doesn't really ever get too excited, so sometimes his tracks are a bit dull. Honestly, for some of them I'd fire up Animal Crossing on the Switch and just hunt for insects or fish while I listened to him in the background.

Also watched the Deleted Scenes on the Bonus Disc. Absolutely nothing special here, and everything should've been cut and was. I'd say these aren't even worth watching unless you have ABSOLUTELY nothing else to do whatsoever.

The 2-Part Interview with Alec Baldwin was pretty delightful, as his enthusiasm clearly shines through, and he's not afraid to ask Chase personal questions alongside questions about the show. At only 45-minutes, this easily could've been double that in length and I think it still would've been interesting...

The 2-Part Dinner Conversation between some cast members and production staff was pretty decent, even if you've heard many of the stories they still by this point if you've listened to the commentaries or watched some of the Docs...

And finally, the primary documentary on the Bonus Disc is pretty great, albeit brief at 45-minutes. I liked hearing from some people like Elvis Mitchell, Soderberg, Andrew Dominik, etc. That was a fun watch...

Now it's onward...Probably finally going to get around to watching the original Roots: Miniseries or Star Trek: The Original Series - Season One...I've seen neither but have always been meaning to...

Finished Miami Vice: Season Three, which I had been watching on and off for a couple months, in between stuff like Sopranos and gaming and whatnot. First off, they gave Don Johnson an awful haircut. Not sure what was wrong with his hair before, but they basically gave him a haircut that a child would have (it actually resembled the haircut the Brad character in Home Improvement had, which was very '80s/early '90s, and not very flattering). I wouldn't say they "jumped the shark" this season, but it was definitely the beginning of the slow downward trend that the show would begin to go on. Episodes too far-fetched; episodes that aren't even remotely as emotionally involving. The guest stars and music were still great, for the most part, as was the direction on most of the episodes. It's just not nearly as good as the first two seasons.

I started Season Four and can't say I expect much based on the first three episodes. Just kind of ludicrous storylines with some not-so-good acting. Even the direction is pretty weak...At least Don Johnson got his normal haircut back...

Formula One

Flew through Miami Vice: Season Four. I'd say while it's continuing the downward trend that plagued the final seasons (like most TV shows). First off, there's quite a few "message" episodes, only one of which I thought was successful; the best episode of the season in my mind dealt with the issue of AIDS and homosexuality, but not in a way that beat you over the head with a message. It was subtle, which is how an episode like that should be written, and the acting was standout in that episode. Was also impressed cause this would've been released when AIDS was still relatively new in terms of public knowledge, so props to the creative team for tackling the issue. But then the series continues to stumble. There was the requisite "dream episode" that seems to happen whenever a television show starts to become stale and the writers start running out of ideas. The episode also incorporates extra-terrestrials and UFOs, which doesn't help. Funnily enough, the episode guest stars James Brown. Probably the quirkiest, oddest, and worst episode in the series (at least, thus far). Then there's the typical "cop is in a coma, so let's make this a clip show, showing his interactions with his various castmates and key moments in his career". That was dull. I did a crossword puzzle while I watched that one. And finally...



Already watched the first couple episodes of Season Five, and at least they resolved that kind of asinine Crockett plot...Hope to finish the series Monday or Tuesday night...

EDIT: Halfway through Season Five and I just had to add that if you didn't think the writers were running on fumes, then look no further than the sudden storyline/episode where it's revealed that the Stan character is a hardcore gambler who has a gigantic debt. Typically, something like this would've been built up over the course of a season, but no, not this time. It was just they needed an episode, wanted to send out a message that it's bad to have a gambling problem, so let's just suddenly say that this character is a giant gambling addict. It just makes no sense, so despite the good acting from the actor (I think it's Michael Talbott), it's just annoying watching the episode. Overall, the season has had some decent episodes, but they've been few and far between. Was probably wise not to push forward with additional seasons...
