Re: Last Show You Binged?
Still working through Community. On ep 2 of Season 5 so I am much closer to finishing the series than I thought I was just a few days back. I had forgot that when Community was airing that it was one of those fortunate shows that received a pick-up but at the cost of a reduction in the number of episodes per season. I never watched when it aired so it is nice to be able to finish up the series and not have it takes months to do so (wait, I think I saw the pilot but then it piled up on my dvr and at the time for one reason or another I stopped watching).
At times, if this show was a bit more racy/adult it would have been a perfect fit for HBO or certain basic cable channels that are less shy about airing nudity/leaving adult language intact (say FX). It is hard to articulate but I am starting to understand why NBC had to be convinced by impassioned fans to keep the show on the air as it strikes me as something that was certainly a bit unique compared to all the other sitcoms that were airing on network tv.

Better Call Saul: Season One - Wow. Like a lot of others, when they announced this I was pretty skeptical. I just couldn't see why you would even want to do another show set in the Breaking Bad universe, given what the expectations would be. I was even more skeptical when it was announced it would be a prequel. In my mind, most prequels just don't work so I just couldn't see this series getting any where near the quality that was Breaking Bad. Well, I was wrong. And foolish for questioning the judgment of Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould. When I "binge" a show, usually that means maybe 2-3 episodes one night, 2-3 episodes the next, and on and on for like 5-7 nights. This one I started yesterday morning and ended up watching the entire thing straight through. Like, the first episode had me within like 20-30 minutes. And then the ending for the first episode sealed the deal. I won't spoil it for others, but it managed to tie into the Breaking Bad universe in a very clever, funny, an unexpected way. I just had tons of fun with this series. I was a little thrown off by Michael McKean initially (mostly cause I had difficulty understanding his character and his condition), but he slowly one me over (and it's not like I'm not a fan of his. I love his comedic work.). The twists and turns the series took were ingenious, and there were constant cliffhangers that basically forced me to keep watching. I can't imagine what it was like to have to wait for a new episode week by week.
Now, I would've started watching the second season today, but of course I had to recently cancel Netflix due to finance issues cause by the current pandemic. Dammit. I'm going to see if my brother or a friend can grant me their log-in if they haven't used all five of the ones they are granted.
I have a queue lined up for other shows to binge while I'm still stuck home and out of work. First off is Miami Vice, which I recently started. Watched the first disc of season one and I thought it was fantastic and much better than I expected. I thought for sure it would be dreadfully dated but its really not. It starts out strong and has some great character actors and, as every knows, some pretty great music. I look forward to finishing the first season and continuing on with the rest of the series.
After that, I have Battlestar Galactica (I hope to finally start the first season proper, as so far I've only seen that initial mini-series), Westworld: Season One (started this a while back but got distracted with other things so want to start it over again so I'm caught up and am following everything), then probably Animal Kingdom: Season One (not too sure how much I'm anticipating this one, because I think I ranked the movie as my favorite of the 2010s, so I'm trying to temper my expectations).

Animal Kingdom's first season is awesome, some of the best television from the 2010s. The show remains great for its first two seasons and then declines rapidly. The first season is available on Blu-ray.

Patriot S2 - Really enjoyed this show, and I'm disappointed there won't be any more.
Black Books S2 - This really isn't holding up. There are still some laughs, but the ridiculousness is a bit too much, now.

The Tudors Seasons 1-4, first watched it as it aired and loved it, and its still great I think.
I Love Lucy Seasons 4-9. I really loved this show and even though it aired 30-35 years before i was born i found I liked it more then most sitcoms made after it.
