Some aspects were ignored, but I agree.

I caught this and the 2nd ep which is previewing On-Demand. I was really curious about this considering they've gathered together a pretty great cast, and Cuse is behind the wheel, but found it a letdown nonetheless.

Absolutely. Cinematography, atmosphere, mood, general unease and creepiness were aspects that fell far short of the French series.

I don't think I'm going to stick with this. I found it very dull. I also didn't like the way the parents were reacting to the daughter coming back. I know it was shocking, but I feel like they just kind of accepted it too easily. I've never seen the original, but it was apparent that there definitely need more "mood" to this.

A shame... this cast is stacked with good actors.

What was that show that A&E dumped after like 2 episodes then moved to another network? And then it just disappeared? I wonder if that will happen again.

Those Who Kill was moved from A&E to Lifetime. This got 1.54m viewers and a 0.6 demo, which is only slightly better than Those Who Kill. Its lead-in, Bates Motel, had 2.14m viewers and a 0.9 rating.

The issue is Duck Dynasty went to A&Es head, and now that that Dynasty has toppled, they may be more forgiving. Who knows.

Yeah, TOTALLY. It felt more like they were surprised she'd come home early from a trip. I did watch the original series, LOVED it, and felt that had a better vibe. At least the sister's response felt more believable.

I just watched the first episode. I've never seen the original series. For a basic cable A&E show, this has a huge cast. I'm going to keep watching. I'm intrigued so far.

Re: The Returned (S1E01) -- Series Premiere -- "Camille" -- 3/9/15

I have never seen an original programming from A&E, so I was expecting it to be cheesy and lame, but I have to say it was done really well. It was more drama then supernatural, as I thought it would be the other way around to play to the 'dummy' crowd that so many shows play to today.

I'm in for the 10 episodes!

I thought the ending of the French version fell apart toward the last 2-3 episodes. Maybe the American one will make things a little more clear.

One and done for me. Great cast. Bad directing.

Those were my thoughts, they even attempted to duplicate most of the production design and setting.

This is also why I gave up on the original French series. This concept is basically an elaborate what-if scenario happening in our reality. I don't buy some of the reactions and the parents act far differently than I think would happen.

Re: The Returned (S1E02) -- "Simon" -- 3/16/15

So I'm guessing the former dead people pigging out is somehow relevant.

Even with the big cast there are already starting to be too many coincidences that can become distracting. I will keep watching for now.

This. The build up was pretty good but I don't understand what they did with the season finale. I probably won't watch the second season. The little boy was creepy in the French version.

I liked the second episode. The cast is too big, but I think this episode balanced it out well a bit.

I like it so far, as I think it is very well done. I did not see the international series, so I have no idea where this is going as it seems like that is a negative to people who have seen it before.

Re: The Returned (S1E02) -- "Simon" -- 3/16/15

As I said in the premiere thread, never saw the French version, but so far this version has been entertaining. I thought the scenes between Simon and Rowan were really well done. M.E. Winstead was really good in those scenes, especially in the library when she thought she was seeing him as a ghost.

This has more of a supernatural drama like Resurrection as opposed to being any sort of horror/suspense. Seems like the only people unhappy with this version were the ones who saw the French version. Curious to see what the serial killer storyline has to do with the Returned along with the creepy kid hanging out with Dr. Han.

It has largely been identical to the French version so far, which makes watching it a second time a chore.

The music is the difference. So much more creepy in the French original.

Music + the creepiness of Victor. This new kid just doesn't look creepy like the French Victor.

I liked last night's episode and the show seems to be picking up a faster pace.

Yeah I liked last night's episode too. However, it seems like this is getting torn apart by people who have seen the original version.

The stuff with Simon and Rowan is very odd, yet compelling. I'm not sure if she knows yet that he's back and not a figment of her imagination. And now her fiance is freaked out by him.

The scar on Lena's back is another mysterious revelation.

Still wondering what the deal is with the creepy kid & Julie. I was annoyed by the nosy neighbor.

BTW, anyone think the voice-over guy who says...."Previously on The Returned..." is the same one who did Lost? Sounds like him and I would probably bet it's him since Carlton Cuse produces this show.

I haven't watched any of this yet but keep seeing the previews during Bates Motel and think it looks decent. May need to check it out.
