The Returned (S1E10) -- Season Finale --"Peter" -- 5/11/15

Rowan and Tommy's celebration is overshadowed by a mysterious premonition in the Season 1 finale; at the same time, Julie makes Victor face his tragic past; Camille realizes she will never be normal; and Helen's plan meets a mysterious end.
Final episode of the season
No news if another season is in the cards or not. Probably no one here cares anyways since most here didn't watch.

The plot really deviated quite a bit from the French version. I'd be interested to see where they would take it if they got a second season.

Good episode. But sadly I don't see this getting a second season. It had a good cast and my opinion it was better than ABC's Resurrection. I'll check out the French version of The Returned soon.

Enjoyed the season finale, but disappointed they left EVERY plot hanging as I was hoping for some explanation on any of the multiple stories. Shouldn't they have decided on a 2nd season by now as most networks are rolling out their 2015-16 schedules?

Bates Motel... felt like a season finale, without knowing it was one. This...? Yeah, not so much. Like, I literally went looking for next weeks episode.
What to say, what to say... I don't get what the devil is going on here, at all. First and foremost? "Towns suddenly wiped off the map... see the dead rising just before!"
Well, then it *clearly* can't be Forbes' "Imma let you finish, but before I do... *BOOM!*" Or else... umm... paradox, anyone? "Dead rise, town wiped away. Town wiped away *because* the dead loon rose." So whatever is threatening the town, it ain't her. Also, if it were... it'd make for one hell of a short second season, seeing as how she's about five minutes away from going *KA-BOOM*.
Secondly: The dead themselves. Until Ms. Crack Podcast Journalist showed up, I was half thinking the town was already dead/in Hell/Purgatory. Because all of the dead who have returned, there's a single clear constant: Guilt & sins.
Twin: Kills her whole class, she's the only one returned.
Nutjob with TNT: She's... well... crazy. And burnt down city hall. Literally.
Mr. Emo: Suicide, leaving pregnant bride at the altar.
Peter: Responsible for killing a kid+mom.
Son of (not) Sam: Uhh, yeah... see: A Goddamned Serial Killing Cannibal.
Slain Kid: A wackjob sociopath with mommy issues. (And who, one might argue, is thusly stuck because he can't "let go." The kid clearly is competing with both TNT Nutso *and* Serial Killing Nutso.
Bottom dollar: Not a single one of them is 'good.' Furthermore, most every last one of them is pretty damn 'bad.' That clearly ain't a coincidence. What meaning it holds, however... who knows. Since, I assume, a season two pickup is far from guaranteed, the world might never know exactly what's going on.

Re: The Returned (S1E10) -- Season Finale --"Peter" -- 5/11/15
One other thing I just noticed upon writing my post: The episode titles.
Each and every returned has an episode named after them. Camille, Helen, Simon, Victor, Adam (+ Tony), Peter. Six so far.
Two more? Julie. Lucy. Lucy *clearly* died, but immediately returned. Seems to me Julie, it could be argued, also wasn't the 'lone survivor' of the neighborhood serial killer.
So eight of the ten episodes, each named after a Returned. Interesting, no...?
What's more interesting, but of course, are the other two - they're either total aberrations, or else foreshadowing future discoveries. Those two? Rowan and Claire.
I'm doubting it's all a coincidence. The show is named The Returned. It took the somewhat unusual step of naming each episode after a character. 70-80% of whom are, themselves, already confirmed Returned.

It's been awhile since I saw the French version, but it wasn't until about mid-season through of this version that I started noticing things play out differently. I can't recall exactly which episode it was, but I know it seemed like a pretty exact copy until about the last 4-5 episodes.

When will we find out if A&E will pick it up for Season 2? I know that Traditional TV has their lineups all set for 2014-15, not sure when Cable Networks decide on next years programming?

Too bad as I was interested in seeing where this went in a second season. In contrast, I feel like Bates Motel is running out of steam.

I actually really liked this show, but I figured it would get cancelled because of the low ratings. I hate when this happens cause you get attached to a show and the characters and then it doesn't make it to 2nd season.

Bummer, but not surprised. This show just never caught on. Also, fans of the original refused to watch this. I guess Carlton Cuse can now go back and focus his attention on Bates Motel and The Strain.

I'm not surprised it was canceled. But I do wonder if ABC's Resurrection was part of the reason, many didn't give this a chance, in addition to the original show.

I was just going to same thing. When this show was first announced, I remember seeing a ton of posts on social media saying it was just a "rip-off" of Resurrection. I think far more people were aware of the ABC show than they were of the French series.

I agree, there were probably many people who were aware of ABC show than about the original French show. I haven't seen all the episodes of the French show. But I have to pick between the American remake and the ABC show, I would have to go with A&E's remake over the ABC show.

Any news of when the second season of the French original is airing? Seems like it's been forever.

For some reason I thought it was just going to be ten episodes with a complete story, nope, dragging out concepts that really don't need to be more then a season or so. Then it just gets cancelled, there is a reason I hate cliffhangers.

Before Resurrection premiered, there were some fans of the French series saying that it was a rip off on social media and IMDB. Then the rip off blame shifted to Jason Mott, whose book titled The Returned was optioned by ABC. The Resurrection pilot was developed and filmed before A&E announced they were remaking the French show.

I liked the first season of the ABC show, but season 2 was pretty bad for a few reasons.
