Two things I want to see in the final shows:
Chris Elliott taste test canned dog food.
Andy Kaufman reveal the hoax.

Elliot was on recently so unless he does a surprise appearance I'm guessing that's it.

CBS has put up an archive of almost 200 photos

I think the E Channel televised his NBC shows in the 90's after he went to CBS? Not sure why his NBC's shows havent surfaced for 15-20 years? I will always say if a network showed Carson reruns at 11:30 and Letterman NBC reruns at 12:30 they would beat all of the current late night talk shows in the ratings.

Even though I haven't watched Dave reguarly for the past 10 years (as he has gotten too angry and too political), in his heyday he was one of the best. He is definetly from the old guard, as the new hosts are just lame and so generic. Kimmel, Fallon, Colbert, Meyers, Stewart and whoever took over for Ferguson just bore me so I don't even bother watching late night TV anymore even though I could DVR it every night in this day and age.

Eh. I used to love Dave. I watched him religiously almost 30yrs ago. These days when I put him on he's just not funny. It's time for him to go.

Thought it looked like Michael J Fox was having one of his bad days last night, though I did enjoy his Charles Nelson Reilly joke.

Dave's long time friend Tom Dreesen makes his final appearance tonight.

Ha! I remember that bit. Great stuff.

Didn't they try it at some other place and were able to get a whole bunch of them in?

Yeah, it was a running gag for a long while. They used all sorts of costumes.

If the last two nights are any indication, we're in for some fantastic music in the next few weeks. Clearly, Paul is pulling some strings to get things in that Dave wants to hear.

I wonder if they have anything planned for the summer of repeats, like showing Dave and Paul's favorite shows, something like that.

On another note it seems to be the practice now for Friday repeats. I think Fallon is the only one doing 5 shows a week. I wonder if Colbert will do Fridays.

Kimmel, Corden, Myers - all have Friday reruns.

I know there's all this jizz-fest around Letterman's final days, but I miss Colbert so much, that I've been watching old clips on his site, and man, it's still as funny as ever, if not funnier. Can't wait 'till he starts!

Don't expect Colbert to be the same on his new show. I suspect it will be more variety oriented, with a lot of musical acts (with him doing a lot of singing).

Well, yeah, I know he'll be more himself than his pompous windbag character. But I'm also sure he'll be coming up with a whole slew of funny characters as well.

Re: Dave Letterman announces he will retire (Last show 5/20/15) / Colbert signed as h

Ah yes. He must sing, dance and re-enact movie bits from 25 years ago. And don't forget endlessly making it seem everyone is one big happy showbiz family.

Odd why CBS decided to wait until September. When Carson left, Leno took over right away. Plus all the reruns are bound to hurt Corden's ratings.

Leno had already been hosting The Tonight Show for years on Mondays and when Johnny was on vacation, so it was not a big deal for Jay to be on the show just days after Carson left.

It is a calculated risk on CBS's part. They want Colbert to premiere in the fall when the primetime audience is bigger and football is on. That will give them more eyeballs to promote the new show. They don't want to waste the hype and curiosity during the summer when fewer people watch TV.

.

Reportedly CBS is going to fill the time slot with reruns of their primetime shows, and most affiliates will probably show syndicated reruns of sitcoms.

From the Tribeca Film Festival.

Colbert with the beard (the one on his face) looks like he's aged 10 years since leaving the Report.

Also, they are renovating the Ed Sullivan Theater in the time between the hosts. I believe they are using the same studio. Fallon was able to move from 6A (Late Night) to 6B (Tonight show) right away because 6B had been remodeled during the last 6 months of Late Night.

Leno could also start sooner because Carson's show was in Studio 1 while Studio 3 was prepared for Leno's show.

Plus neither of those guys were hosting shows daily for years. Colbert probably wanted at least a few months off before doing so again. With some of that time going to planning but he at least gets to take a break.

Yeah some of the guests this include Travolta, Amy Schumer, Paul Rudd, the Piedmont Bird Callers - wonder if anyone will pick that up, Bruce Willis, Jim Gaffigan, Downey Jr., Elvis Costello, Seinfeld, and Chaka Khan singing Paul's song "It's Raining Men".

I hope Dave asks Travolta about Scientology (I know he won't but one could dream). It's not like it matters at this point.

Dave has been doing a lot of Scientology jokes since Going Clear came out, but Travolta has always been very nice to the show so I would be surprised if he put him on the spot like that.

I bet Travolta's handlers will request that Scientology not be brought up at all.

Last night Bruce Willis was on for the 61st time wearing the same outfit that he wore the 1st time back in 1985. They ended with a montage of all the silly stuff he's done for the show through the years.

Howard Stern was talking on his show that he wants to be Dave's last guest on his last show, but they didn't go for it. So he will be a guest on the last 2 weeks, but he is always entertaining with Dave as he is one of the few guests that can take over the show and Dave is always uncomfortable about what he'll say next.

mwbmis 04-24-15 08:16 AM

Howard is a friend of the show and has been a good guest through the years, but frankly being the final lead guest in David Letterman's long history is a privilidge that he hasn't earned. .
