Anybody else catch Spud: The Disposable Assassin's cameo? It was in the background of the courtroom scene. For those that don't know, Spud is a comic created by Rob Schrab, friend of Dan Harmon and also the director of the episode, that Harmon also worked on

I thought it was great. My wife thought it was going to be terrible but then ended up loving it.

The faux commercial was spot on, it looks they did a shot-for-shot remake of the old toy commercials with the kids. I'm sure the original is on YouTube.

I thought it was hilarious. Sort of a weak "reason" for having an animated episode, but I dug it.

I loved the exchange with Chang reading the pill packet at the end too.

"That's Korean, Chang"
"What am I again?"
"CHINESE!"
"But I FEEL Korean"

It was pretty cool but I wasn't laughing all that much.

Yeah, and that probably had all to do with the premise of the episode and absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the top rated show on TV aired its first new episode in 3 weeks in the same time slot.

Jeff nearly dying being laughed away felt weird (and rushed), but the satire in animated part was a hit out of the park.

Between Duke looking horrified when Destro dies, and the scene where the guys complain about health insurance rates rising...even though they have the budget to make a new military vehicle every week.

This was a borderline Robot Chicken episode.

Community has been going up against TBNT for years now. So no, it doesn't make a difference.

Allison Brie looked really hot this episode.

Pretty much zoned out half way through this one. Didn't do it for me.

I thought this episode was brilliant. Since Communities audience is in the same demographic as people who watched GI JOE growing up so it makes sense to do an episode like this. if you never watched GI JOE I can understand being lost. But if you remember it the episode is absolutely amazing.

Community has never been a show for the mainstream. It's a show that appeals to almost the exact clique of people who hang out in this forum.

Everything about this episode was awesome. I never watched GI Joe. But I loved this.

how do you top a Christmas stop motion animated episode = with a GI-Joe cel animated episode of course...

this show when done right effortlessly merges surrealism, comedy and mild drama to great memorable effect.

Fun idea, poor execution. Not particularly funny for me and somewhat boring, except for Destro dying and everyone's reaction.

This was better on repeat viewing, it's more clever than funny but really enjoyable when you know what to expect.

The reason behind it was kind of lame, but i'll let that slide.

Loved this episode. I did watch GI Joe growing up, so that probably had something to do with it. All the little throwaway gags (like ximxam and mixmax) were brilliant.

Continuity error! Destro was shown in the cobra tank in a commercial portion after his death (the Jobra commercial - assuming the continuity of the cartoon and commercial were linked, which they had appeared to be up until that point).

I didn't laugh, but this may be one of the best things I've ever seen on television. GI Joe was the first TV show I followed, and those early viewing experiences have been seared into my brain. To see them return with such majesty was mind blowing.

The episode creeped me out, especially as the commercials got more and more surreal.

Community is the only show I leave on my DVR because I always wind up re-watching the episodes.

Yes, and with that logic, 2 & A Half Men must be an awesome show!

Re: Community - "G.I. Jeff" - 4/3/14

I just watched this on my DVR. I was never a G.I. Joe fan, rather I invested my youth in Transformers. With that said... this has to be one of my all-time favorite episodes of Community ever! Absolutely brilliant in every way. Even the way the episode wrapped up quickly and with a corny joke was fitting of the genre.

I absolutely lost it when Abed made the comment on reusing the knockout animation and two seconds later they used it again to open the bunker.

Community notched a SERIES low with this episode. You want to find another excuse?

What a weird nonsensical reply - you're flailing. As you can see, pretty much everyone who watched it, loved it, even those not familiar with GIJOE.

What's your excuse?

Except the show notched a SERIES LOW. So no, not everyone who watched it loved it. people tuned out at the stupid premise. You guys, DVDTalkers, sure, probably liked it (though not everyone here did). But to do this episode after the last terrible episode really makes me not hope NBC just cans this show and picks up something else instead. I've stuck with the show since the First episode but obviously Harmon is not the God people think he is. He's clearly scraping the barrel this Season as proof by the multiple episode threads where people have complained. Sure it's not 4th Season bad, but is seems like an episode those show runners would have done to just be "see! We're so original".

I've found this season funnier overall than the past two seasons. Getting rid of Chevy Chase greatly improved things.
