Really? That explanation is in a previous ep? That makes sense but maybe we missed it.

Were we supposed to tie that into his story in this episode of the guy being tortured while being forced to watch it all unfold in a mirror? My wife thought maybe it was some sort of training in case he were ever in such a situation, which I didn't put together but thought it made some sense. Which is weird, because she usually has no clue what the hell is going on in these shows.

any chance kid in the bathtub is one of the present day investigators? or would that be a bit forced?

I doubt it. The kid was what, 10? Flashbacks are from the mid-90s. Don't think the math works out quite right, but interesting thought since they did make a point of the kid being there.

That is not the same dude. The guy in the gas mask is presumed to be Ledoux (and I'm assuming it has something to do with his being a meth manufacturer for that gang). The dude in jail at the beginning of episode four is the ex of the older victim, as well as a former cellmate of Ledoux.

This is an interesting read about an obscure 19th century collection of stories that are referenced repeatedly in the show: http://io9.com/the-one-literary-refe...ium=socialflow

We never did get back to who that actually was or what happened. The show flash forwards and flashes back.

Was there any significance to the scene going all slowmo when Cohle was walking down the hallway to go to the members only part of the biker club? Other than the obvious "take your breath now, cause shit is about to get real!" aspect of the slowmo?
It took a little while for this show to get its hooks in me, but I'm fully on board now. I love these shows that are so good that they sort of ruin the rest of TV for me.
The only issue I have with the show is sometimes I can't understand what Cohle is saying. MM is doing such a heavy low timber with his voice that I've been tempted to turn on the subtitles. I've definitely missed a line here and there. It could be my tv speakers aren't up to snuff.

Yeah there is a lot going on in this show. I rewatched the first 4 eps and I have a better handle in things now, although I rewound so many scenes I've probably seen everything three times now. Still, I hadn't caught that the thing on the wall he was staring at in his apt was a tiny mirror.
The guy at the end of ep 3 is Ledoux (sp?) and there is presumably going to be some kind of Waco style standoff at that lab based on Rusts comments.
I think all the slomo stuff was just to play with the viewers sense of time and put is in the same drug addled mindset as Rust. It's very effective in combination with the excellent sound engineering. The dude is high all the time. I don't know if anyone caught this, but in ep 2 when he goes to interview the hookers at that bar, he downs a bottle of tussin on the way.
