Re: The Walking Dead -- "Internment" -- 11/10/13

I hope this ends the virus/flu storyline. It was just a stupid convenient way to quickly knock off the Woodbury folks. Would have felt more realistic if they had at least killed off a major character, but I guess they are saving that for later.

I watched season 1 over the weekend, first time in two years. The quality back then was so much higher. The emotional impact when their camp was overrun and Andrea's sister was attacked had me in tears. This season? I feel nothing for these characters.

I also hate the artsy, emotive scenes this show tries to pull off. People already commented on the music, but entire scenes are problematic. Like the opening to this episode was just Rick driving with a furled brow to the sound of some awful indie song. Totally pointless and a waste of time.

It would have been more realistic if a few Woodbury people didn't get sick. They could have had a few of them walking around ok. I thought it might be for budget reason at first but they could have moved a few of the sick actors over to the healthy people walking around in the background doing stuff.

I've mentioned before that Carl is the Wesley Crusher of the show, but I think that now Rick is the Dr. Smith of the show. :)

I can't remember if it was mentioned, but is there a reason they didn't all just move to Woodbury instead of living at the prison? Was Woodbury destroyed or surrounded by walkers or something? Seems like a much better place to live.

I seem to notice that happens a lot when a show gets popular (inserting indie rock or source music). They didn't have that stuff in the first season, but it started showing itself in the second, and now they seem to end each ep. with it.

They didn't want to live in houses because it reminded them how life was without the zombies. The prison reminds them that they are trapped in a world gone to hell. Also they wanted to keep a eye on the zombies. In Woodbury it was hard to watch the the zombies behind that wall.

People were sneaking in and out of there all the time. My guess is they figured it was too unsecure/there was too much wall area to guard.

Wow, I thought this was a pretty intense episode. I loved it. The only things that bothered me were the Governor, he doesn't need to be back yet. Makes it too soap opera-ish. and...a Jeep? Really? Surprised the "window down" folks haven't jumped all over that yet.

Question though, Rick had a watch sitting on the passenger seat at the beginning. Was that the same watch he gave to the blonde guy that disappeared? If so, how did he find it?

Rick is a terrible leader. Shane should not have blocked the door at the hospital. I think everyone would have been better off.

Pretty sure you could take Rick out of the picture and every one of those places still fall apart.

Who exactly is going to tend to the fence? You have a dozen in the sick ward. Carl, Beth & Judith are 'quarantined.' Daryl, Michonne, Tyrese and Drunky are off looking for meds. Rick and Carol were off looking for meds/supplies. Who does that leave on fence duty? Maggie, whom we saw at the beginning doing her best to hold them off.

I swear people would rather complain than apply two seconds of rational thought.

You don't think someone could toss a rat over a fence?

That was the watch Carol gave him when he sent her away.

The mysterious feeder was clearly shown being on the inside of the fence while feeding rats to the walkers.

I did mention the jeep to my wife. It really is a stupid vehicle to use, at this point.

I can see the Jeep being 4x4 coming in handy, but not with a weighed down trailer attached to it. Also wouldn't you think ahead and grab something that gets better gas mileage at this point?

Ahh, I forgot about the flashlight feeding. I was only recalling the rats they found on the ground.

Sure, NOW they're shorthanded... but the season started off with walkers bunching together at the fences and not spreading out as much - and no one was sick yet. Carol even stated "it's getting as bad as last month". So they've had at least a month do deal with the threat of walkers pushing down the fence.

In episode 2 there were a lot of healthy people around still when the fence starting caving... they started poking them and also led the walkers away with the pig blood. After that they still just hung around doing the basic chores. Even in episode 3 started with them dilly-dallying around.

Plenty of opportunities for them to address the issue, but the characters as usual wait for the shit to go down before doing anything.

Well, if they kept the fences mended, healed everyone who got sick, made sure all outside factions got along and everyone in the prison hugged and kissed each other goodnight then it wouldn't be much of a show ;)

Agreed, they had plenty of people at one point to help with the fence, and I remember myself and others mentioned it back then. Two seconds of rational thought indeed!

You have to ask yourself, who in the core group didn't want to live in the prison anymore? I don't for a second believe it was the young girl or the Governor feeding the rats. The rat reveal will obviously come up at some point.

Yeah, but reinforcing the fence with wood isn't really that great of a scheme. Eventually you get too many zombies - fence goes down - wood or not.

Before they had folks regularly going out and weeding out the zombies by poking them through the fence. When everyone got sick, they ran out of manpower to do it between the sick people, the quarantined folks, and the folks out on the medicine runs.

Nothing too out of whack here for me.

I too wasn't really interested in the governor. He was a good villain for a while but they should have finished him off last season.

The group needs an engineer, which I guess is in short supply in Georgia. Not like there is an institute of technology anywhere in or near the Atlanta area...

"Jason Reitman's The Walking Dead"

I'd watch it!

Exactly. They weed 'em out and they come back, they weed 'em out and they come back. It's a proven method that worked. The only reason it failed was because of the rats. As far as we know they took care of the rat problem so there was no need to reinforce the fence. We won't really know until they touch upon it again though.

If I were in the complaining group around here, I'd ask why are so many zombies are drawn to the fence all of a sudden when there is basically no one around to attract them? If everyone is on runs, quarantined and sick, why are the zombies suddenly swarming the fence? Shouldn't they just be roaming about?

My complaint about that earlier in the season was that they clearly didn't have enough people doing that, even when healthy

Do you think the engineers are still there? Atlanta also has a football team, maybe they can track them down and make them tackle all the zombies.

OR... the writer's would have to think of CLEVER ways for the conflict to arise. Something they clearly aren't up to.

Shouldn't a ton of zombies be at the fences again or at least on their way due to all the gun shots from Rick and Carl?
