That show was crawling to the finish line.

13 eps is too much for many of these shows.

They need to tighten it up and go w/ ten eps - or less if necessary.

I agree. The first 6 episodes of Luke Cage were great, but the last 7 were truly a chore to get through. I think its better for them to go maximum 10 episodes per season, dependent on the storyline. Wonder how many episodes The Defenders will have? Probably easy 10 as they have to give service to a number of characters.

Ah, here's the problem with Iron Fist:

this show’s creative team — led by Scott Buck, who was showrunner on the later seasons of Dexter, and one of the two credited writers on the episode that gave us Dexter Morgan: Lumberjack
No wonder it sucks, that guy is the biggest hack and Dexter's last few seasons are steaming piles of shit.

Yikes. I can't believe how much Iron Fist is getting hammered by critics. This definitely has me worried. Of course, I'll watch it regardless for continuity if nothing else. If Iron Fist is as bad as they say, I hope he doesn't bring the Defenders down.

A lot of the reviews are really digging into the "white savior" trope the show has at it's core. That has me thinking the show really had an uphill climb with reviewers. As long as it's better than the last half of Luke Cage I'll be happy

It appears that Marvel attempted to please no one with Iron Fist. Non-comic book Marvel fans are upset a white man is playing a martial-arts lead, while also stripping out all the comic book elements of Iron Fist's character. Many are saying it's a very low-rent version of Daredevil's first season.

This sux if the reviews are true. I loved Iron Fist as a kid and was looking forward to this more than any other Netflix Marvel show. If it truly is a second rate Daredevil that does not bode well since I can't even get through the first season of that show.

I'm Asian and I'm not offended that Iron Fist is white. People need to get off this forced diversity bs.

Agreed. I liked almost everything about the show, except how it actually played out. I didn't even finish the series, it was such a struggle towards the end.

re: Marvel / Netflix projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.

I agree that 13 episodes is too many for some of these shows. Daredevil so far was the only one that legitimately felt like thirteen episode seasons were justified. Jessica Jones only had enough story for six and Luck Cage for seven. Plus I think these are major problems too:

1. Lack of interesting side characters: Honestly I think Daredevil is the only one of these shows worth a damn so far and while I never really enjoyed Charlie Cox's take he had some great side characters. Foggy, Karen, Stick, Frank Castle, Wilson Fisk and the night nurse all memorable. Hell, we had an episode with Frank in prison and I didn't miss Daredevil once.

By the same token in Jessica Jones outside of Kilgrave, I couldn't tell you a single characters name and only remembered them as the sister, the cop the sister slept with, and Carrie Anne Moss who I ended up thinking was the most detestable character in the entire series and felt she never got a good comeuppance for all the misery she caused. Luke Cage was the same way.

2. Maybe they should try some filler episodes: I know filler episode is a negative term but it gives the story time to breath and it gives you a chance to develop your other characters. Look at The Flash or Arrow this season. They may have a filler episode but they always have a scene at the end to remind you the story is moving forward and to remind you of it.

Disappointed to hear about Iron Fist though as that was the Netflix series that I was most looking forward too next to Daredevil. They better not screw up The Punisher as we might be able to have the first great Punisher adaptation on our hands.

I didn't realize that Scott Buck is one of the main people on the creative team for Iron Fist. In that case I'm worried as the last few seasons of Dexter which he was in charge of were horrible (coming from a previous fan). I'm still inclined to not believe the show will be as bad as the reviews are saying though just because it seems rather odd to me that most of the other Netflix Marvel shows have been highly praised that there would be that big of a drop in quality.

I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but for my money one really negative influence the show had is that EVERY genre series now feels like it has to have season-long "big bads " which I think really hurts the overall storytelling and often gives everything a bloated feeling.

You are so right about that influence. After Buffy every show had to have a season-long villain that would be defeated at the end.

Does that mean I have to watch Iron Fist to follow The Defenders? With all the bad reviews it's getting I'm not sure I want to...

You probably don't need to, but I will say that Netflix only gave reviewers the first six episodes, which really did suck. The second half of the show picked things up quite a bit.

It's still my least favorite of the Netflix series.

It's probably worth one viewing. I don't see anyone giving it two.

beg to differ
it was the back end (episodes 10 +) that "sucked"

I thought you were a massive comic nerd and would watch everything comic related no matter what. Now you're being picky?

It's all connected. I say watch it.

Charlie Cox says Daredevil season 3 will film later this year: http://mcuexchange.com/daredevil-sea...g-charlie-cox/

Jessica Jones season 2 has begun filming as of earlier Tuesday: http://mcuexchange.com/jessica-jones...on-season-two/

So, are we looking at Defenders in August, Punisher in Fall/Winter, Jessica Jones Spring 2018 and then Daredevil in Fall/Winter 2018?

If they keep up with the 3 series a year pace, then Daredevil will probably be summer 2018 and then probably Luke Cage or something else in the winter.
