I just discovered this show and it's the funniest new show I've seen in YEARS. That whole hotel scene and the dad telling the quietly sobbing girl to be quiet, and Axl sleeping in a V and "I can hear you." All GREAT stuff.

I started reading this thread having completely forgotten that I fell asleep last night before the show ended. I figured Brick wouldn't get to go to DC for some reason. It's been a formula for sitcoms since their inception-- one that I don't find funny. I love the show, however. I knew from the moment Sue came in asking for a special dinner that it was her birthday.

I was thinking the same thing and they made it seem that he would screw up the spelling of one of the words. But never did I expect that his 'whispering' would screw things up.

I just finished watching the episode and the 't' whisper didn't bother me like a guffaw would on another show because that's been Brick's little glitch since day one. I wonder how he made it that far without whispering extra letters.

If you've been watching the whole season, you will notice that his little 'glitch' has been happening a lot less frequently in the most recent episodes. I think the writers don't want to overuse that comedy gold.

You're right, I have noticed that. As a matter of fact, I'd forgotten about it until he did it.

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Axl's ex-girlfriend Morgan (Alexa Vega) drifts back into his life, and Frankie worries that he'll get hurt again. Meanwhile, Brick cares for a baby chick for a school science project, and it awakens parental feelings in him.

I'm a little behind on this show. How has it been recently? I know this is by far not the best sitcom on right now, but it has it's moments.

It is still consistently good. I might say that just because it is the weakest of the ABC Wednesday comedy line-up, it is FAR better that most of the junk out there!

I'll second this.. there was one episode that was a clunker recently, but I think that it has been consistent. I hope that ABC picks it up for next season, because it is far better than what other channels have to offer.

Re: The Middle -- "Worry Duty" -- 04/28/10

AFAIK ABC picked up all three of the remaining Wednesday night comedies for next season not long after they canceled Hank.

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
In the Season 2 premiere, Frankie has a hard time getting the kids ready for school, and she's accused of being overprotective by Brick's new teacher (Doris Roberts). Meanwhile, Sue may be too enthusiastic about being on the cross-country team.

This was a very underrated sitcom last season. I wasn't expecting much of it, but grew to like it. Heaton's character is kind of an idiot though.

Is Chris Kattan still a regular for Season 2? He was probably the worst part of the first season, in my opinion. I hated any time they shoe-horned him in to the family plots.

Same here. Picked this up during the the tail end of summer reruns. I liked what I saw (about 6 episodes or so).

In the same boat. I will buy the first season set when it drops in price to something more reasonable. I think Sue is just about one of the funniest characters I've seen on TV in a long time, and the entire show has all the makings of a great show. The car sales bits drag the show down a bit from what I've seen but over all pretty solid, and I LOVED the six or so episodes I saw.

I didn't feel the pilot was as strong as what I saw before this, but I am not deterred. However, I talked a friend into watching it for the first time tonight and hope they weren't deterred. It was funny, but just not as funny as I think this show can be.

By the way, I just LOVE the picture of Sue on the mom's desk at work. I've seen it twice now and each time I pause the DVR to look at it...it makes me laugh so hard a tear or two comes out of my eyes.

good episode - none of the kids hit that "awkward" age / growth spurt which can be distracting.

still a great 1/2 hr comedy

Meanwhile, Brick announces a new take on fallen foliage when he rakes up the leaves in the yard but doesn't want to take them to the dump; he wants to set them free in the forest instead.

Almost forgot about this show tonight. I know it's not as popular here as Modern Family, but hell it's still a damn funny show.

I haven't watched Better with you yet, but judging by last week most of you didn't like it, I won't bother with threads for that.

Brick spending all that time separating the leaves and then wanting to free them or keep them in his room
