Re: The Middle -- New Series with Patricia Heaton -- Debuts 9/30/09

This show is the best of the 4 ABC comedies on Wednesday night. I rank them in this order.

1. The Middle
2. Modern Family
3. Cougar Town (might drop)
4. Hank (have dropped)

Also, the actor playing Axl is 19 years old.

The Middle -- "The Floating Anniversary" -- 10/14/09

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Frankie and Mike's romantic anniversary plans are sidetracked by complications including Brick's illness, Sue's heartbreak, Axl and his learner's permit, and a diaper-clad dog.

Figured since this got a full season and has been pretty well received here, that this now deserves a weekly thread.

This episode was not as funny as last week... but seeing that hound dog in with the oxygen mask

However I still enjoy it.

Chew 10-15-09 08:57 AM

Yeah, didn't like this one as much as last week, but it still had it's moments.

You must really want to be an actor if you're a teenager who spends half his time in nothing but boxers.

Re: The Middle -- "The Floating Anniversary" -- 10/14/09

Really? I felt that the "we're so poor and miserable" tone was significantly lighter this time and enjoyed it much more. The ending in the park was both touching and hilarious. It certainly helps in understanding why those two work as husband and wife.

[Brick whispers]Radio.[/Brick whispers]

I loved when Brick decided to go and get a doughnut during the sales meeting while no one was supposed to know he was there.

Ok, that girl Olivia and that whole Marriage thing was hilarious.

I'm finding myself enjoying every character on this show except Patricia Heaton's. Unfortunately, she gets 75% of the camera time.

The writers did a good job in making the daughter much more likeable this week. I hope she stays that way and/or gets even better.

Definetely. And great acting by those two kids.

That little kid is a good actor.

I don't get the hate for Patricia Heaton... but then again I have never seen her in anything before except this show. I never watched 5 minutes of Raymon (that's where she is from - right?)

I like the whole cast execpt for Patricia Heaton. She seems to be trying too hard. that little kid is pretty funnytoo. I like this show but would be better with less Patricia Heaton.

I'm in the minority - even with her bad math skills, I love Heaton!

This was my favorite ep so far.

Mike and Olivia's conversation at the front door was great.
And Sue blowing up after her mom found the check was funny and sweet. rotfl

JasonF 10-23-09 01:17 AM

Re: The Middle -- "The Trip" -- 10/21/09

I've got nothing against Heaton as an actress. It's just that the harried mom trying her best to keep up with everything her wacky husband, boss, co-workers, and kids throw at her is such a cliched character that I don't need to see it again.

Re: The Middle -- "The Trip" -- 10/21/09

Just went through a 4 episode marathon and I'm finally caught up. I like the show, but man Patricia Heaton's character is such a pathetic clueless woman. I just want to strangle her at how stupid she acts. I used to think that Heaton was kinda hot for a 50+ year old woman, but dang could they not make her any more frumpier and unattractive.....But, I guess that's the whole point of the show that she's supposed to be a middle America housewife.

The kids, especially Brick and Sue are fun to watch and I enjoy the Dad.

The Middle -- "Block Party" -- 10/28/09

<a href="http://s110.photobucket.com/albums/n104/djariya/?action=view&current=The-Middle.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n104/djariya/The-Middle.jpg" border="0" alt="The Middle"></a>

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Brick is tested at school and rated "socially challenged," and Mike hopes basketball will bring him out of his shell. But when a lawn-mower contest is held at the neighborhood block party, it's Brick's talent for souping up engines that helps him fit in. Meanwhile, Frankie helps raise money for Axl's football team.

I'm all caught up w/ this show. For the most part I like it, but damn Heaton's character Frankie is such a clueless woman.

Pretty funny ep. The youngest kid has a good onscreen presence. He's seems older than his character.

 @ the daughter chasing balls.

Chew 10-29-09 06:48 AM

Does Atticus Shaffer (Brick) have some medical condition with his legs? They never really show him taking more than two steps before he's off-camera and even those steps are a bit gimpy.

rfduncan 10-29-09 08:03 AM

Re: The Middle -- "Block Party" -- 10/28/09

This was the best episode yet! AND there was no real mention of the family's financial woes for once!

Brick is just the bomb! [whisper]bomb![/whisper]

I read that he's had some brittle bone disease and has rods in his legs.

I was just telling my wife that the casting for this how was dead on and they should have used this casting agent for Hank.

Brick, and the whole cast, I think is great. Didn't know about Shaffer's limitations, he does such a great job. This last episode also didn't concentrate on the car lot, which was a plus, but I do like Chris Kattan (and Murray) in the cast. All in all, it's a funny show that is also surprisingly touching, which is no small feat for today's comedys.

Notice Hank was already preempted?

I liked how the 'block party' just so happened to have all the football players moms at it wearing their sons old Jersey's...

Especially when at the start of the episode she mentioned how exclusive the block party is and that outsiders had to stay behind the barricade. I'm not crazy about Axl at all, but Sue is much better than before. I love Brick.

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Axl accidentally breaks down the front door and Mike insists that he repair it, which may leave the house open for days. Meanwhile, it's time for Sue's school picture, and she's not exactly photogenic.

Brick is a riot. Really enjoying this show.

I still like this show and will continue to watch it, but the last couple of episodes haven't been as funny as the first 2.

Re: The Middle -- "The Front Door" -- 11/04/09

I watched, but I don't really have anything to say. There are still some decent character pieces, particularly with Brick, but this show is just so by the numbers. Which can be fine -- I enjoy Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother, neither of which are subverting the genre in any way, but somehow, when I watch the Middle, I feel like I'm watching every episode of every family-oriented sitcom ever and I just think "Haven't I seen this a hundred times already?"

maingon 11-05-09 04:53 PM

Re: The Middle -- "The Front Door" -- 11/04/09

As always the young kid Brick is awesome, the other kids are great too. Last nights episode was so-so. I still really like this show. I think its a great show when it focuses on the kids especially Brick. When it focuses on Patricia Heaton its not that great then.

I watched it, but it seems to be getting stale. I don't really care about any of the characters.
