They are going serialized as I mentioned previously in this thread.
But yeah Erica Messer, the showrunner, said they aren't going to have the actors do anything out of character.

Makes sense. I was checking casting announcements to see if maybe Rene Russo had been announced as a new cast member or something.
While I would pass on the Joe Mantegna full frontal, I wouldn't mind something from AJ Cook. Even a little full backal nudity wouldn't go unappreciated.

Since I stopped watching 9 years ago, I was a little shocked how old Joe Mantegna looks.

Cast previews season 16. It’s funny hearing Rossi say Bullshit and Fuck! Premieres tonight at 12am PT. 2 episodes drop. I’m glad they are using the streaming format to be more realistic with the language and violence.

I finally got to see the trailer. Damn that looks badass. The look of the show is totally different. Has a more gritty feel.

Re: Criminal Minds (Moving to Paramount +)
Just watched the first episode. It’s 1am and I’m pretty exhausted.
First of all, it’s TV MA and it’s definitely darker and gritty. More blood was shown than probably Network TV allows. Also it’s in 4K, HDR with Dolby Atmos. Very cool for it to get this presentation now that it’s on streaming.
Rossi was cursing like a sailor, but understandable due to his circumstances. If you missed season 15, he re-married one of his many exes Gail O’Grady (Crystal) and as he said here she apparently died. This season takes place now in 2022, so the final season took place in 2019 as they kept mentioning 3 years have passed. And they wrote out Reid and Simmons with one line of dialogue.
Loved how Alvez got back Garcia to help. He will never have the dynamic she had with Morgan. The case with the network of killers is pretty interesting.
This felt like a Criminal Minds the TV MA cable reboot. I’m glad streaming is allowing them to be darker and edgier than the CBS version.
I’ll watch episode 2 later today.
The trailer got 4.3M views. I think there’s a lot of interest in this and it will do well for Paramount plus.

I've finished both episodes. Definitely darker than past seasons. But, I dig it. If you're going to bring back this show, especially with no FCC regulations or censors, you gotta take more chances creatively. Glad they finally got Garcia back in the mix. I
when Rossi asked her after she came back, do you need my log-in and password? And the computer said it had been 1,099 days since her last log-in. I'm surprised the FBI kept her account active.
Sad when they revealed that Rossi's wife died from cancer during the pandemic. That explains his volatile behavior. I love hearing Mantegna curse though.
Of course Prentiss is stuck dealing with an asshole budget cutting suck up bureaucrat at the FBI.

Joe Mantegna looks so old now. Crazy.
It was good. The tone of the show feels different, as does the look of it. I really hope they get a few cameos for this. I bet why the line of "special assignment" was used. Would be amazing even if we got a Shemar Moore cameo, but I doubt that will happen.

Re: Criminal Minds (Moving to Paramount +)
My sister just finished binge watching Criminal Minds (the CBS version) all 15 seasons and 334 episodes over 2 months!!
She became a huge fan. I know for most of you here that would be a very daunting and next to impossible task. Even though it's a new and darker version, I know a lot here quit the show or didn't follow it regularly, so jumping right in on season 16 doesn't sound very appealing to try to add to your backlog. So I don't expect a lot of commentary here. But, it's off to a promising start.

I liked episode 3. It took a different perspective and showed more of the background of the main killer (Gilford's character) and his home life.
I
when Rossi referred to him as a "Fuck Head" and Garcia freaked out and couldn't say it.
I'm not surprised that Mantegna's loving Rossi letting loose, he came from working with David Mamet in his past. Also, Mantegna directed this episode too.
I just want to punch that Fuck Head assistant director.

They are killing off JJ's husband right? They are strongly giving off those vibes.

I watched the 4th episode last night. And he ^^^^ called it. Looks like JJ's husband could have cancer.
The episode's villain was a red herring since they weren't affiliated with the main killer. So technically it could be labeled as a "filler" episode. But, it was still entertaining though.
AJ Cook looked really hot in the kitchen with only the dress shirt on when she was talking with her husband and having coffee. She still looks smoking hot at 44.

Looks like JJ's husband is in the clear.
Damn, the killer with Mommy issues ate his Mom's (the bitchy Senator) face off. That was a pretty gruesome scene. At least he's connected to the main killer.
Ends on a cliffhanger and won't return until January 12th.
I doubt they will do something dramatic and kill off JJ or Alvez. If they do, it would probably be Alvez. JJ is way too popular a character and has a family. I would be shocked if they did. And I think the fans of the show would be pissed. However, they kind of hinted something dramatic when JJ changed her tone calling her husband.
at the interrogation scene with Prentiss talking to the Deputy director. "Get the fuck away from me or I'll cut your balls off and feed it to you. "

JJ was further outside the container so it doesn't make a ton of sense that she would be killed off over Alvez.. I doubt either is dead. No way they come back only to be killed off.

Figured as much. Good. I am enjoying this. Short seasons with a tight focus. Use the same formula. One overall big bad but weave in cases of the week stuff.

Technically it's season 17 they are going into. This was never a "reboot" it was a continuation.
And they are leaving the door open for Gubler and Daniel Henney to return.

Eh...changed the name a bit, moved to streaming, and changed up the style of the show being a long case rather than procedural by week. I'd consider that a reboot but I guess it could go either way.

Well, nobody died from the cliffhanger. I did think the plot in this episode was a little all over the place. They tried to squeeze in a little too much. I am glad that Tara and Rebecca are no longer a thing.

The season finale is tomorrow.
Hopefully there's a good final showdown with Rossi and the killer. Overall, it's been a pretty good revival season and I've enjoyed that they made it darker and edgier.
I
at the flashback in the last episode of Alvez and Garcia's really awkward date.

Finished the season finale. it was actually dropped a little earlier. I think around 11pm PT
Anyway, it was good and a pretty clean wrap up to the season. They did leave a tiny loose end that is probably carrying over to next season, but we don't really know too much about it yet.
There was a death
It was nice to see Gail O'Grady again in some dream sequences.
I'm glad the show came back and it can definitely continue on in this format with lesser episodes and more serialized stories.
