Mom (CBS) -- Series Thread -- Starring Anna Faris & Allison Janney

"Pilot" - Christy, a newly sober single mother, is trying to get her life together. She is challenged when her estranged mother, Bonnie, comes back into the picture, on the series premiere of MOM, Monday, Sept. 23 (9:30-10:01 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
MOM is a comedy from executive producer Chuck Lorre starring Anna Faris as Christy, a waitress at a posh Napa Valley establishment who is four months clean and doing her best to be a good mom and overcome a history of questionable choices. Her sobriety is tested when her recovering alcoholic mom, Bonnie, played by Emmy Award winner Allison Janney, reappears chock-full of passive-aggressive insights into Christy's many mistakes. Bonnie joins Christy's already complicated circle of relationships: her handsome, married boss - and lover - Gabriel; the restaurant's hot-tempered chef, Rudy; her pretty, 16-going-on-25-year-old daughter, Violet; her sweet but overly honest son, Roscoe; her irresponsible ex and Roscoe's father, Baxter; and Violet's clueless boyfriend, Luke. Christy tries to remain positive as she pursues her new path in life, but she faces an uphill battle, surrounded by a dubious support system - and a copious amount of dysfunction.
STARRING:
Anna Faris (Christy)
Allison Janney (Bonnie)
Nate Corddry (Gabriel)
Matt Jones (Baxter)
Sadie Calvano (Violet)
Blake Garrett Rosenthal (Roscoe)
Spencer Daniels (Luke)
French Stewart (Chef Rudy)
I'm giving this a whirl because I've seen Anna Faris in a few movies and have liked her, but I know in this forum CBS sitcoms aren't really liked. 1 thread is probably good enough as there is too much on and most likely not every week there will be something to talk about.

I saw it early, I wasn't really impressed but it was only the pilot. Not sure if I'd keep watching it though. What happened to Mike & Molly?

How were you able to watch this if you're from California? Are you in another State right now?

I don't know why I even bother watching sitcoms anymore. I thought this was garbage, but it will probably be a huge hit.

In the credits it shows Faris' character previously working as a stripper. They need to go back to that workplace setting to hold my interest. Watching her serve Duckie soup ain't doing it for this hombre.

I got a few laughs out of it. But, yeah it's a typical Chuck Lorre sitcom. Mostly manufactured humor. I get that there is supposed to be an underlying message about Christy and her Mom trying to work out their issues.

I didn't know Anna Faris was the mom ! I know she is in her late 30s, but she has always been in young roles

the reviews were pretty good on this one, tuned in an was expecting more. i don't know, maybe I am gettinga little burned out from the Chuck Lorre sitcome factory. I'll stick with it for a few more eps, but didn't love it.

The acting is phenomenal next to Two Broke Girls, Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory. But I don't see myself tuning back in, it wasn't all out awful as I find most of the CBS line-up, it just doesn't seem particularly interesting either. At least Badger is in it.
CBS has me until the end of this season with How I Met Your Mother, after that I'll gladly not give them the time of day anymore.

I found this to be absolutely horrible. The laugh track tried to force laughs that just weren't funny.
The best exchange for me was something like this (and it wasn't very good):
Kitchen Guy: What does this take like to you?
Other Guy: I don't know, mushrooms?
Kitchen Guy: Wrong, the correct answer is tastes like ass.
But then again the only thing I generally find funny about 2 Broke Girls is Oleg. Maybe I need to find a kitchen comedy.

They tried that, maybe you could do a reunion but I think Bradley Cooper would be too expensive these days
Was based on Anthony Bourdain's autobiography.

What cracks me up about that, is if they did a kitchen comedy now, starring Bradley Cooper about Anthony Bourdain, it'd probably be huge.

No, I mean early as in a screener. In LA we're often able to see movies and TV shows way early. I've also already seen Seven Years A Slave and the Michael J. Fox Show. You can do it for extra cash usually get about twenty bucks a pilot.

Had a few laughs, but the family is so dysfunctional that it's really not funny. And I hate the laugh track/live audience.

Awful.
Daughter is a druggie slut! Mom is a druggie slut! Grandma is a druggie slut! Laughter ensues!
There were no laughs, and most of it was just uncomfortable to watch.

Like the cameo of Jon Cryer and his real life wife Lisa Joyner.
Seems like one of those shows that tries to shoot as many jokes and one liners hoping something will hit. And they really tried to cram a lot into the pilot.

Watched it. Yeah, not good. But most pilots are really tough to get through. I'll give it another shot or two. No more after that if it continues to be mediocre. The commercials for "The Crazy Ones" made me want to be dragged by a car from my eyelids. The part where Sarah Michelle Gellar asks the always overacting Robin Williams if he could ever be serious for just a moment, and he does that really lame response, I knew then I would never watch this show. Robin Williams can be quite good in dramas. But the person directing him deserves a huge paycheck to reel him in. He's so annoying.
