Not even Norris? What is he now, one of the writers of the show? Are you even trying to have a real discussion, or are you just bored?

Wow. OK. If Norris is not even sure what the point of the minerals were, then how am I (or the viewers) supposed to know? Next subject.

75 minutes??? I guess they sold a lot of commercials. I'm fine since I watch in DVR, I'll just be careful to add more minutes.

Re: Breaking Bad -- "Ozymandias" -- 9/15/13

Not sure if this was posted yet or not but Slashfilm recorded an episode commentary podcast with the ep's Director, Rian Johnson. It's a pretty interesting podcast that also reveals the very last shooting day on the entire series took place in this week's opening flashback. The series wrap was actually a close-up shot of Jesse in the RV. Pretty cool funfact.

I think it's also worth noting that this episode is the highest-rated television episode in history (according to the users of IMDB anyway) scoring a perfect 10.

Ah. WITH money. I agree, that'd be a win for him. But I don't think they're going to end up with money. Whether Walt takes on and defeats the Nazi's or not (I think he will take them on, don't know if he will defeat them), I think there's no way he gets his money to his family.

The minerals were a metaphor for Walt. Just as Hank had literally walked by rocks (minerals) with no appreciation for what they really were, he completely missed what Walt was until it was way too late.

I'm not sure I'd say I'm a fan, but I'm at least passively rooting for him.

Walt has a code, and recently, he's been almost entirely on the wrong end of dumb circumstance and bad timing, especially in regards to Jesse.
  1. He gave up cooking and walked away
  2. He gave Jesse his share and a chance to walk away
  3. He advised Hank to tread lightly and gave him good reasons to let it go (he's out, cancer is back, paid for his care making him an accessory)
  4. He was ready to be arrested rather than let Hank die
  5. He was ready to give up his money rather than let Hank die
  6. He tried to keep his family together and gave his wife an alibi when he couldn't

Ideally, he'll go down in a blaze of glory, killing all of the Nazis and sacrificing himself to save Jesse, so that Jesse can poison Lydia and deliver a barrel to Skyler.

I'm still on team Walt. People forget that Walt did try to walk away from the business in season 3, but Gus reigned him back him by telling him that a true man provides for his family despite the consequences.

And Jesse has treated Walt like shit throughout the series. He blackmailed Walt with Jane to get his money when Walt was trying to save the poor boy. He tried to steal Walt's recipe and cook on his own, and Walt never would have got in all the trouble with Gus if Jesse hadn't taken revenge on the guys that killed Combo. Jesse is also to blame for all the problems with Tuco.

I have a feeling Walt will redeem himself somehow in the end.

The fact that Walt has been surrounded by terrible people doesn't somehow make him a good person.

The same way you can enjoy the rest of The Sopranos event though people (including those involved with the show) say College and Pine Barrens are the best episodes.

I agree with all that you listed... and that would be the ending I'd like to see!

I have to agree with this, along with what chess mentioned above. Walt just has a lot of redeeming qualities that make me root for him... AND I do think of him as Hal in Malcolm In The Middle! LOL!!!

I'd love to get another scene of them discussing Star Trek.

Did anyone see Aaron Paul on Kimmel the other night? He had mentioned how last week's episode was messy, but basically said the last 2 are going to be much, much worse.

Hank's rocks seem to be the lowest bids on there.

Rooting for Walt in the context of the show is understandable. I'm personally rooting for him to die, but I get going the other way.

Actually thinking Walt is a good guy is laughable.

Re: Breaking Bad -- "Ozymandias" -- 9/15/13

sometimes I wonder if the way people think of Walt depends on how they watched the show.

If someone was into Breaking Bad from the beginning, they initially saw Walt as a good guy. That's their "anchor' position. If they watched 1 season at a time with long breaks between seasons, I could picture someone seeing Walt get worse, but then reverting to the anchor thought of Walt being a good guy. Whereas someone who got on board late and plowed through all the seasons in a row might not have had a long enough break between seasons to revert back to seeing Walt as a sympathetic character.
