Re: Heroes of Cosplay on Syfy
News flash: reality shows are all heavily staged and manipulated to build enough drama so the audience will keep tuning in. The number of people willing to watch a show about making cosplay costumes is far less than seeing "characters" each week. There has never been an honest reality series in the history of television.

We get that ...
Point is we rather they drop the 'reality' part and just do as they do on Face/Off. I'm pretty sure most who watch this show are those who enjoy Cosplay and could do without the drama, or 'reality' but for whatever reason, SyFy thinks otherwise.

^ That's pretty much my view. I think cosplay is cool and would love to see a show dedicated to the entire creative process of the more elaborate costumes you see in cons. I don't need a show about girls being bitchy to each other and all the fake tears.
But I guess it should have been obvious what SyFy was aiming for when there's only one male competitor. Then again, I guess we're lucky he wasn't some himbo all these chicks were fighting to impress.

I will add my voice to the chorus of wishing this show went more in line with Face/Off. They can even have the fabricated drama by having the contestants create their next costumes at home -- but I imagine that would make the show more expensive to shoot if they would need to follow a bunch of contestants at their homes.
I do wonder if the cast of this season will find more animosity directed their way during the next con season.

The addition of a couple male cosplayers would likely balance out the show.

Re: Heroes of Cosplay on Syfy
I have a question about the finale. Why was Becky wearing contacts? They briefly mention that the contacts were stage contacts or something to that effect (rather than actual corrective lenses) but why would her Astrid costume require contacts like that? It seemed very odd and random.
I would love if they added more male cosplayers. Preferably an even split.
However, I think Jesse is not only the token male (the neutered boyfriends/husbands don't count) but the template this show intends to follow if they ever include a male next season. Just the one and barely give him any screen time in favor of girls being bitchy to one another.

My best guess anyways.

You're probably right. But since they edited the episodes in such a way that it seemed like she went from her Bioshock costume straight to working on the Astrid costume, her doing anything else in the convention (other than when they went out for drinks) didn't come across.

She might have worn contact for her bioshock cosplay. It's hard to tell, because I can't find a similar picture to compare, but this looks like she could be wearing some contacts.

Considering how detail-obsessed most of them are, I wouldn't be surprised if they wore contacts to get the exact shade just right even if their eyes are naturally the same color and it wouldn't be noticed by 99% of the fans.

Late to the party but I just started watching this show. Was very cool seeing someone on the show (Becky) that I knew from Anarchy Online back in the day. She did so much for the RP community in that game, organizing and hosting parties and events at the various nightclubs that were in the game.

A couple of the girls have already done a fair amount of damage control on their Twitter/Facebook/Youtube accounts. I'm sure damaging "their brand," as Yaya would probably say, is something they didn't think of when they filmed the show and made themselves look like hypocrites.

Given how bad they made most of the girls look, SyFy should team up with MTV, bring back Tool Academy and put them there.

Jessica on the other hand, could and did.

Wasn't there someone else that badmouthed Jessica Nigri on the show (just before a third girl tried to kiss her and Nigri refused)? I don't recall Yaya interacting with her at all.

Looks like it was posted right after the episode in question aired. So they did damage control early.
I find it funny that, if not for this show, I wouldn't know who Yaya Han is. And, although I know of Jessica Nigri because of a friend of mine who's obsessed with her (enough to make me sick of seeing her), I always assumed she was model hired for that zombie cheerleader game and not an actual cosplayer. I guess you do learn something new every day.

The other person who had said comments that were not well received was Riddle talking about how if you're not in the same physical shape as the character you want to cosplay, then you shouldn't do it.

Re: Heroes of Cosplay on Syfy
No, Yaya was the one on screen doing the "badmouthing" (everyone's since said they were talking about someone else and it was edited to be about Jessica). But no she didn't interact with her in the episode, she watched her protege do the interacting, which prompted the badmouthing about Jessica being too sexy and thinking she was going to bring the kid down with her.
The other person who had said comments that were not well received was Riddle talking about how if you're not in the same physical shape as the character you want to cosplay, then you shouldn't do it.

Actually it was posted like maybe a week and a half after the ep aired. Jessica was out of the country when it aired so she didn't comment on anything much till she had come back from working for EA at Gamescom in Germany. But of course by then the crapstorm was well in force.
In the uber nerd world, I suppose.
Funny enough, none of the cosplayers I know even talk about this show. The only one I ever saw mention the show was Harley's Joker after he saw the first episode. He kept his comments civil but he was less than impressed and had his doubts that there will ever be a second season to fix everything wrong with the show (mainly the lack of focus on the actual costume creation that bugged everyone here as well).
