Should be good. I'm betting he gets caught trying to aide Hannah in fleeing the country or something.

It'll be a cliff-hanger since Showtime won't be showing episode #9 until the weekend after Labor Day.

I think you may have it mixed up. Labor Day is in two weeks. Episode 9 is still scheduled for next week.

"Are We There Yet?"

Perfect title. I've been asking that question about the end of the series most of the season.

Yep, because we all know it's the cool thing to do online to go around bashing the series yet continue to watch it. Seriously I admit that the series isn't perfect but I don't think it's deserving of all the bitching that goes on about it.

I totally agree. You should see all the moronic trolls on IMDB that have nothing better to do with their time but start up threads bashing the show or causing a bunch of arguements. Gee, I wish I had that much time on my hands!

If you don't like it...don't watch it. Life is too short.

Just to Devil's advocate, it is the last season. Even if some people aren't happy with it, it would be stupid to quit now. Especially if you've watched since Day 1.

I think the thing with Dexter is that it plays out better if you marathon it. The series has never been the most brilliantly written or anything and people want it to be something that it isn't. I think most people were impressed by the fantastic season four and nothing will ever match it no matter what seeing as it probably is the show's best overall season. In my opinion the only really weak season was six and even that wasn't the worst thing ever.

Finally getting some tension in the wrap up. Not sure what killer is still lingering out there that took care of the kid.

Wonder if this means that rumor/spoiler I read about the "Brain Surgeon" is true...

...and I hope that some of those other spoilers I've read aren't.

Re: Dexter -- "Are We There Yet?" -- 8/18/13

Good episode tonight. I was surprised at the end that Zach wound up getting killed by The Brain Surgeon who's apparently still out there. I had read some rumors that the killer wasn't taken care of earlier in the season but wasn't sure if they were true or not. The Zach character wasn't really anyone that memorable so I won't really miss him I guess.

I am curious who was trying to set Zach up for Cassie's murder. It would seem as though it's the real Brain Surgeon. My guess is Elway (unlikely even though he does seem off) or possibly her boyfriend. He saw Dexter and Zach together and I'm guessing was lying that he didn't recognize Zach's picture.

The stuff with Hannah was pretty good too. I sort of expected more of a showdown between her and Deb rather than Deb just letting her off by letting her play the Dexter card.

It's pretty obvious that Cassie's boyfriend is the Brain Surgeon.

Didn't the end reveal that Vogel is the Brain Surgeon? She was the last person left alone with Zach, driving him home, right? And they showed her with that piece of the brain missing from him at the end. And the music playing on the iPod in Dexter's apartment was that same music she played earlier in the season and was playing during the original Brain Surgeon video...as has been discussed in previous threads here.

I think that's what they want us to think. My guess is she really has been working with the real Brain Surgeon all this time.

Re: Dexter -- "Are We There Yet?" -- 8/18/13

Personally think Quinn would be the one to pull a frame job on Zach. He's obviously very adamant about solving the case, believing that it will get him the Sgt. position. That type of behavior wouldn't exactly be beneath him going by what we've seen him do in the past. Although if that were the case, I think he would have really pressed Dexter for the lab results.

While they pretty much dropped the "Quinn suspecting Dexter" plot years ago, under certain circumstances, it could easily come back into play. If he thinks solving these murders will get him Sgt., bringing down the true Bay Harbor Butcher would probably get him in the door as Governor...

I don't think it's Quinn. He wouldn't have delivered the brain chunks to Vogel.

Re: Dexter -- "Are We There Yet?" -- 8/18/13

Very strange episode. I understand some of the complaints this season. Being that this is the last year, it doesn't really feel like they are setting up an End Game for Dexter. This could pass for any random season of the show, especially with another mysterious serial killer.

It was so light and sometimes comedic in tone than most episodes this season.

Zach brought out a few laughs.

Zach: "Dude, you have 2 girls fighting over you?"

The ending did catch me off guard. Did not expect Zach to die via the Brain surgeon. They did make you really think that Vogel was behind it, especially since she was the last person to see him and was coincidentally holding a brain when Dexter called her.

at the editing with Dexter and Hanna's sex scene. They were butt naked seconds after they took off their shirts. I'm envious of Michael C. Hall. Getting to do another simulated sex scene with Yvonne.

Vogel was tearing up when she was looking at the sample though, plus there were moments earlier this season of her receiving the brain stuff when she was alone.

Re: Dexter -- "Are We There Yet?" -- 8/18/13

So... who is the brain surgeon?

Someone we haven't met.
Elway.
Cassie's boyfriend.
Vogel herself.
Hannah with a new M.O.
Masuka's daughter.

Vogel has an obvious connection with the brain surgeon. She could be doing it herself, maybe even without full awareness of what she's doing, or directing whoever is.

Cassie's boyfriend has a connection to Cassie and Dexter, but not Vogel (that we know of, anyway). And he shouldn't have had enough information about Zach to set him up for Cassie's murder unless he either got the information from Vogel or he'd been keeping tabs on Dexter.

Elway has no known connections to Cassie or Vogel, and no motivation to target someone close to Dexter and set up Zach.

Hannah couldn't have known about Vogel when the killing started, so she's probably off the hook. Unless Cassie and Zach were both copycat murders.

Masuka's daughter is a blank slate.

I have enjoyed every episode this season. I think it's been great.

I'll be happy no matter how they end it. For a show to last 8 seasons on cable is incredible, IMO.

Altho I knew Zach was done for, I was kind of bummed to see him killed off. I actually kind of liked him after this episode, once he calmed down and really wanted to learn how to do things thru Dexter.

The writers aren't that smart. It's clear that the killer is Casie's boyfriend. That's why he showed up at the kill scene. And they even repeated that scene last night, at the beginning, if my memory is correct.

The season started strong, then went really bad, I hope that they finish strong the last 4 episodes.

Jesus christ, Yvonne is such a tease!

Also, I'm annoyed they didn't follow through with actually giving Dexter an apprentice.
