Atlanta (FX) -- created by and starring Donald Glover -- Series Discussion Thread
EXCLUSIVE: Donald Glover has lined up his followup series to Community. The actor-comedian is set to write, executive produce and play the lead in a half-hour comedy, which has landed at FX for development. Tentatively entitled Atlanta, the comedy is set against the backdrop of the Atlanta music scene. Glover grew up in Atlanta and has an active music career as a hip-hop artist, stage name Childish Gambino. I hear several networks were interested in Atlanta but, in addition to the FX comedy brand, Glover also was attracted by the network’s willingness to accommodate his music touring schedule. Glover is free and clear to topline Atlanta as he is no longer a regular on Community and is set to appear in five of the 13 episodes of the cult NBC comedy’s upcoming fifth season. Last season, Glover was attached in second position to an NBC comedy project penned by Matt Hubbard. Glover, repped by CAA, The Schiff Co. and attorney Lev Ginsburg, stated off as a writer on 30 Rock before landing the breakout role on Community as former high school quarterback-turned-air conditioning repair annex recruit Troy Barnes. He also has headlined two standup comedy specials.

I think Glover is funny. I saw one of his stand up specials and thought it was pretty funny. So yeah I'll check this out.

Atlanta, the new comedy created by and starring Donald Glover, will have its series premiere on FX on Tuesday, September 6 at 10 PM ET/PT. In Atlanta, two cousins work through the Atlanta music scene in order to better their lives and the lives of their families. "Earn Marks" (Donald Glover) is a young manager trying to get his cousin's career off the ground. "Alfred Marks" (Brian Tyree Henry) is a new hot rapper trying to understand the line between real life and street life. "Darius" (Lakeith Lee Stanfield) is Alfred's right-hand man and visionary. "Vanessa" (Zazie Beetz) is Earn's best friend and the mother of Earn's daughter. Glover serves as Executive Producer, along with Paul Simms and Dianne McGunigle of MGMT Entertainment. Atlanta is produced by FX Productions.

Watched it, enjoyed it. Pretty interesting how they took it in episode 2, but really can't wait for the rest of the episodes. Kinda wish I would have just let it build up some backlog to binge it later in the season as episode to episode is going to kill me.

Is it sad I didn't notice this? Saw it OnDemand and didn't pay attention if that was muted or not. I am curious what happened in the shooting, though. Only the first two episodes were there to watch. Not sure if there have been more?

I really hate rap, but I like Donald Glover. I was torn, but decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. The character Darius was pretty funny.

Saw a re-air of the 1st 2 episodes last night.
I laughed a few times, but it's very urban. I have a feeling this kind of comedy won't appeal to most here.

I'm really enjoying this. Some good laughs, with some real-life struggles and issues. Not to mention some really nice camera work and scene-framing. Definitely sticking with it.

I really like this show.
the black Justin Bieber thing, the dog poster at the shooting range, Earn and that agent. very good episode.
