I like the "maxi-season" concept too. An extended yet finite series used to flesh out the story ...

My nomination is "The Last Starfighter" ... Hell yeah.

Yeah, each season is essentially a trilogy of 90-minute TV movies, each episode being a distinct story but with subplot threads running from the first episode to the third, usually with seeds planted in episodes 1 and 2 culminating in episode 3. We could argue over terminology all day, but whatever it's called, I like it quite a bit.
