And I'll second Arye's suggestion for DUNE. For a syndicated show, the STARSHIP TROOPERS franchise seems pretty adaptable.

It was tried a while ago with Kiefer Sutherland, before he did "24." It was originally going to be an HBO miniseries, but ended up being produced by Fox as a pilot that wasn't picked up. It's on the Blu-ray edition of the movie if you want to see it.

They tried that. Alan Cumming was Daryl Zero. Quickly cancelled.

The Hobbit (Bilbo's adventures) would work well as a series. Break it down into the miniature stories that they are and let the viewer experience them over an entire season (or more if necessary), instead of two or three really long movies.

The Lost Room

While it was an excellent miniseries, it felt unfinished. Whatever became of Dr. Ruber and his newfound following? Whatever happened to So many questions left unanswered.

Nightbreed. Expand on the mythology and especially Decker. Lots of stories to tell: I would be feenin' for a Berserkers episode.

Dragnet, Miami Vice, Beverly Hillbillies, Bewitched, Starsky & Hutch, Addams Family, Lone Ranger.

In fact, I'd be willing to bet that they would make better tv shows than movies!

I thought Sky High would have been an awesome TV show. I know it was planned at some point but fell through.

I never thought Fargo would be as good as it is.

Blade Runner could be an interesting tv show if done right.

IIRC Total Recall 2070 was an initial - kind of backdoor - attempt at this. Didn't seem many of these (via a free online Hulu service several years ago) so cannot really say whether it was done right. Cancelled after 22 eps. I think it was originally a cable show so there was some (gratuitous?) nudity. Youtube link won't be SFW.

PS) Just remembered it was via Joost (not Hulu) that I caught the first couple of eps.

They already sort of did a modern Mission: Impossible on TNT. They called it Leverage. It's not exactly the same, but it's a hell of a lot closer to the Mission: Impossible TV show than the Tom Cruise films have been.

I know I'm in the minority, but I did like Amazon's Zombieland pilot last year and I think it would have been a good show.

I thought it was pretty good, but it moved too slowly.

Some movie concepts could work well as a series while others I would like to see expanded to a mini or maxi series. Not everything needs to last for years yet two hours is not always enough.

I'd like to see more shows treated the way the BBC treats Sherlock, in which each season is essentially a mini-series. (Lots of British shows do this, actually, but Sherlock is probably the most easily identifiable example for us Yanks.)

Each season is more like a series of 2-hour movies, right? Not really a mini-series, although there is some inter-connection/ongoing storyline between them.
