I laughed at the end when it turned out she only lost 10 pounds. 20 days out there and she didn't do squat. Hibernating animals lose weight faster.

This naked trend seems to be taking over reality television. There is also a new show about realtors for nudists.

They all suck because really, there is no nudity. What's the point of watching a social experiment ?

There's a Naked and Dating show. I think MTV has it?

Dating Naked premiered last night on VH1. And the previews alone make it look like a piece of garbage (which is sadly what I expect from VH1 these days).

Ah, I knew it was one of those networks. If it was MTV it would be Naked and Pregnant and Dating.

How long before they stop blurring boobies? Funny that un-blurred butts are seemingly everywhere now, but not boobs. I would have guessed they would have been first.

Some cable channel will eventually be the first. They are still scared of advertisers pulling out, since the introduction of frontal nudity would quickly become a race to the gutter. Cable systems in the heartland would likely drop them once the current contract ran out, which is another factor.

It will be a cable channel with very regional pull outside of the Bible Belt.

Anyone see the season finale? Man, what a c**t. She goes off on the guy for no reason whatsoever (gee honey, sorry he has BO, did you expect daily showers and Axe body wash?), and only apologizes when she needs his machete. Which he gladly let her use.

It sucks that she needed medical attention, but had she shut her mouth and stuck with her partner, it probably wouldn't have come to that

Re: "Naked & Afraid" Discovery Channel 6/23

Looks like we are three behind in Canada. Just watched the Josh & Amanda episode. Probably one of if not the worst episodes yet. Josh quits on day 5 and Amanda basically just sits at camp for the last 16 days doing nothing. Based on how much time was left in the episode I was assuming she would quit but I guess they couldn't get anything worth showing with her just sitting there and doing nothing. What a huge waste. Even at the beginning of the episode I think this was the lowest rated combined team and they both looked like they were in over their heads. Guess they were. Even though Amanda lasted, it seemed like more of a sit in or a hunger strike rather than her actually challenging herself to make the best of her situation.

The producers are definitely casting certain pairs looking for conflicts. She was highly energetic and I got the impression she was looking to develop a close relationship with her male partner. The guy was very unusual for this show, he basically wanted to live off his blubber for the 21 days and do nothing.

That strategy of waiting out the 21 days by fattening yourself up beforehand, seems to have become much more common this season. They might as well allow the participants to wear string bikinis or something, they practically blur out the entire torso now after that other naked show got sued.

I've had this same discussion with all of my friends and family that watch Naked and Afraid. The only items that the survivalists should ever bring are a steel cutting tool, a metal pot, or some kind of firestarter. Everything else ranks comparatively low on the priority scale. The guy who brought the goggles, the guy with the roll of blue duct tape, and this last girl that brought the magnifying glass need to be slapped...hard. I especially like the rationale for the magnifying glass: "we can use this to start a fire." Yeah, you know what else starts a fire? A lighter. And it works even when it's overcast.

His strategy may have been boring, but it made complete sense under the circumstances. It wasn't like there was an abundance of food where they were and the sun was brutal. So he adopted the same survival strategy as the animals in the area: lay low during the day, avoid prolonged direct sun exposure, and conserve energy. His partner tried to be Johnny Go-Getter and got herself heat stroke and stage five dehydration for her efforts.

Re: "Naked & Afraid" Discovery Channel 6/23

It does not make for very good television. Contestants have hacked the show's gimmicky set-up by doing nothing for 21 days. I would modify the naked requirement. No one watching would care if these people had sandals or something. Some of these environments are simply too harsh for bare feet. The native people certainly never went barefoot in them. The producers should want to encourage mobility, or we get 21 days of the contestants huddling in a primitive hut.

Re: "Naked & Afraid" Discovery Channel 6/23

They should do what Wheel of Fortune did. When they realized that every contestant chose "RSTLNE" on the final puzzle, they changed it up and just gave them those letters. Maybe Naked and Afraid should follow suit and grant them sandals, a knife/machete, a pot to boil water in, and a fire-starter, and let them proceed from there.

Re: "Naked & Afraid" Discovery Channel 6/23

Actually, I think the problem is they keep making the settings more and more inhospitable. To the point where the only way to survive, like Joliom is saying, is to just hide out all day and expend as little energy as possible.

I'd like to see something where there ARE food and water sources, as long as the contestants are smart enough to find them.
