The movies were episodic as they likely knew they'd be shown as episodes at some point. This always hurts the potential of a so-called "movie" since what you have is 3 loosely connected episodes, open-ended episodes rather than a cohesive whole.

Re: Futurama cancelled again....

The bashing of new Futurama episodes online is the most obvious example of cranky bitter internet nerds hating everything new that I can think of. The writing is every bit as good as the original 72 and they're in glorious HD on top of that. Hopefully someone else will pick it up.

If this is really the end of Futurama it's interesting to note that the split between old and new episodes is 72/68, so there are nearly as many "new" episodes as "old" episodes.

Well, I'm not a "cranky bitter Internet nerd," and I thought there was a distinct drop in quality in the 2012 episodes compared to the 2011 episodes (I thought the 2011 episodes were very good, but the 2010 episodes were the best of the new batch so far).

And while higher ratings do not always go hand in hand with better quality, the ratings trend for the new Futurama episodes is unmistakable (average for 13-episode "season"):

2010 episodes - 2.06 million
2011 episodes - 1.66 million
2012 episodes - 1.24 million

That's a 40% drop in viewers from 2010 to 2012, which I'm sure Comedy Central has noticed and factored into its decision to make these upcoming 13 episodes the last new episodes to air on the channel.

Irony on fully display - talk about a "cranky bitter internet nerd". "No one else likes what I like!!!!! "

That doesn't surprise me. Trust me I was super-excited for season 5 even though the movies were a disappointment. There were a few good ones, but by the time season 6 came along, I watched the first two and just felt like "eh, I'll wait for the DVD".
