So we're all in agreement then that The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is high art and definitely NOT a money grab taking advantage of the popularity of the Daryl character? Good.

He's the perfect example of "never had a plot". It doesn't matter if he dies because we don't know anything about him but his name.
Shane's arc was over. Lori's was a bit more of a surprise but not completely unexpected. Herschel has done plenty. But I just don't think they are going to drop a few hints about Beth being the best one to take care of the baby and then kill her off.
Again, I could be totally wrong.

It would have made for a very good flashback pre-credits, showing how Merle met up with the Governor's group. I don't think it would make sense to show it now, since Merle is gone...but hey, you never know. It didn't make any sense to show Andrea and Michonne in the woods by the fire, either.

FYI the whole 27 people die thing came from an interview with Andrew Lincoln, who later backed off that number. I doubt the cast keeps a running tally of how many characters go down. I do expect a number of people to go down with the majority of them being Woodbury people, but the prison group will probably lose multiple people.

27 deaths could easily be 25 Woodbury people and two prison people.
I just don't think it's going to be a lot from "our" group. When the farm escape went down, they killed exactly who you thought they would...the people who had never had a plot arc.

I've never read a single issue of the comic but does someone seriously think adding one character no matter how popular will cause the "millions" to buy it? How do those movie adaptation comics sell?

It's a delicate line to walk with introducing a TV character into the comics. You may add buyers from the TV show and lose buyers who were interested from the original version of the comic.

Yeah, the dreaded catch-22 of the direct market.

I'd be more interested in a regular book being issued as a tie-in to this TV series. Written by Gimble, or Darabont.

Merle was right on when he accused his little brother of being a sheep with no balls. Did you notice how he didn't even raise an eyebrow when Rick was informing him about his intentions with Michonne in this episode? In fact, the only time I've seen Daryl raise his voice to Rick was upon their first introduction, after he found out that Rick handcuffed Merle and left him for dead.
After that? Baaaaaahhhhh!!!
I hope Daryl realizes this, and starts asserting himself.
