Probably not that fast and they would be easy to kill in the moat. The come straight forward, period. It would be easy to build a completely defensible and self contained compound to live. Only threat would be turning at death and that would be easily manageable.

Yep. I was gonna post that. If I remember right, they even addressed the fact that you can't even go on the water to look for an island out of fear a Zombie whale will turn your boat over. The animals were as dangerous as the people.

That was a fun book, but bleak. The sequel, even moreso.

Is there a map of the Georgia, Atlanta area that all this takes place? Like with markers of where exactly an episode took place. I know Atlanta and the CDC were real places, but what about Rick's town and the prison - it'd be nice to see them on a map. Tolkien did it for Rings, why not here, where it should be easier to map out, since a lot of it exists.

Apparently sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads are too much to ask.
Great, another damn book for me to read
.
This sort of ties into the "island" argument that comes up sometimes in zombie stories, like the end of Day of the Dead.
The cameraman, obviously.
I'd make the "hot=attractiveness" joke here, but I'm too tired to think of one.
Certainly not. I still remember the rush of first discovering Alan Moore and how interesting and intellectual his work is. Of course, as the years have gone bye and I've gotten older, I've begun to wonder about certain things, but that's another topic for another time.

Who the hell is flying the helicopter?

Zombies or floating toilet?
I guess you could leave the ship tied up to the dock to avoid the problems of lack of fuel, storms, and not knowing how to pilot a cruise ship. The zombies still can't get on without a gangplank.
I already have my eyes set on one of the Staten Island Ferry fleet if the shit ever goes down.
And if the zombie virus, or whatever it is, jumped to animals, we wouldn't stand even the slightest chance. Mankind would be extinct in a matter of weeks.

A talking zombie goldfish!
Keene's "Dead Sea" is a stand-alone zombie book (not related to Rising or its sequel). And for a chunk of the book they try the strategy suggested here ... get on a big boat and try to wait it out. "Traditional" Romero-esque zombies but with animals also being infected (dogs, cats, rats, squirrels, fish, birds, etc). And yeah ... there's absolutely no hope for humanity in that scenario.
