You managed to pick out phrase 2/20 on my most annoyingly misused phrases list. Congratulations.

*Note to self: Use "exception that proves the rule" heavily in this sheep game.*

I almost went with 'five by five'... I just didn't think enough people understood the phrase to make it a good answer.

Re: Buffy The Sheep Slayer

Quickly addressing the season six versus four versus one debate. At least with one you can argue they were establishing the show, season four was a transitional year (how do we define ourselves after high school) but season six was basically a year that just ruined what could have been a great series finale. Had six come close to any of the previous seasons in consistency it might have been an acceptable loss but instead it not only was a poor season which introduced multiple annoying characters and took a character that could have been well liked for the role she played in season five and made her the obvious answer to question 20 - without the arc of s.5 - the character no longer had a purpose on the show. It also put the show from brilliant into that category of went on too long. Ugh - beyond the finale and once more with feeling - season six is ALL fail!

That and Five by Five is NOT an invention of Whedon or Whedonites. Neither was the answer I gave but at least it's usage was new for the show. Whedon's usage was common before the show just not with the hip crowd.

It's up there for me, too. I've actually never heard (or seen) it used correctly in conversation.

The Buffy and Spike relationship alone makes season six a good season.

So you're saying the phrase itself is the exception that proves the rule? Got it!

I know this, which is why I was lamenting my answer.

I didn't choose Five by Five because it at least goes back to Aliens and then it is used as an homage in Starcraft.

Sure, but there are BAD answers, like evidently saying that Vic Fontaine was a memorable recurring character on DS9.

Yes, that is a bad answer.

And I have my share of bad answers in this game.

I don't think it's fair to blame a particular season for the show's existence. The fact that "The Gift" would have been an amazing series finale is irrelevant in the discussion regarding the quality of a particular season.

Seasons one through three make a perfectly good trio of seasons, and the finale of three would have made a fine series finale. Season four feels far, far more pointless than season six does.

I think there may be something to the idea that if you never liked the Spike/Buffy relationship (which I didn't) then Six is less redeeming than other people think. It gave us the geek trio, made Dawn into just a useless younger sister, lost Tara, and undid a lot season five which was an early focus of the year.

(I realize that may invalidate my entry and beg for mercy from the sheepmaster)

I don't know, I really like the personal turmoil of six. From a character perspective, I think it's the most interesting.

Season Six also had the awful "drugs/magic is bad 'mkay?" Willow storyline.
