Back to being serious.

I absolutely loved season 1. Probably the most riveting 12 1/2 hours of premium TV in the last several years. I think season IMO was a perfect 12 for 12 in the quality, writing, and acting department. It 100% deserved the wins for best drama, actor and actress at the Emmys.

I still really like season 2, but it hasn't been perfect. But Homeland has one of the best writing staffs on TV right now and even a ho-hum episode still has enough content and good acting to make it compelling.

Homeland is incredibly dumb. I feel like I am watching a completely different show than others.

Exactly...the show is incredibly far-fetched and has insane plot holes but takes itself so seriously...yet you think it is some The Wire like show. It is as ridiculous as Strike Back but nowhere near as fun.

My favorite last episode was
Spoiler:
the world's biggest terrorist engineers a middle of the day car wreck in a crowded neighborhood and manages to abduct the other driver with one neighbor sorta seeing what happened

How does a "Dumb" show win for best actress, actor, writing and drama at the Emmys and Golden Globes.

CSI: Miami is a "Dumb" cop show and never won shit nor got recognized for anything in it's 10 year run.

Homeland is one of the most critically acclaimed, highest rated premium cable shows of the last decade next to Boardwalk Empire & Game of Thrones.

I am really not going to get into a debate about the show...especially when someone using awards and ratings to justify its greatness.

Awesome you guys love it...I enjoy it much more now that I treat it as a Sons of Anarchy like show.

So you come into the thread saying how bad the show is, then when somebody brings up awards you say you're not going to debate anymore and awards don't matter?

Didn't say they don't matter...but it is something that can be used for and against any narrative that there isn't any point in starting an argument. Anyone who follows movies and shows understands that many movies and shows have been snubbed and/or won awards they shouldn't. And in regards to ratings and revenues, that goes along the same lines.

You think Homeland is better than The Wire and that is your opinion though I disagree with it. I think Homeland is insanely goofy, nearly pure fantasy, and insulting to our servicemen. And I am also not going to call anyone who disagrees with me names or a troll. That isn't my style.

Yeah, but the amount of people that say it's great is far more than those who don't like it. So therefore the awards must be justified.

Also you're not a troll.

I was ready to be offended by the servicemen angle. All set to concern-troll on it. But it never happened. I was more offended by Last Resort, oddly enough.

Edit: But back to the comparative seasons. I'm hearing, and I agree, that S2 has sacrificed some characterization and plausibility for increased action and plot twists. For some that would make it a better season, for some a worse. And I'll heshup after repeating for me it's still good as evah.

Because the awards aren't decided by the average, normal public.

Critically acclaimed means jack squat. For years, so called critics have hailed tons of movies that most people can't stand. It's not very often that they jive on what the majority likes.

I don't see how this is an argument at all. The majority of people are morons (or of average intelligence at best - hence the word 'average' being in there). That's scientific fact. Intelligence is not evenly distributed.

The majority of people like CSI and American Idol. They are not artistically or mentally inclined and do not ask for more from their entertainment. Now, while you may watch those shows, and greatly enjoy them over something like Homeland, GoT or Breaking Bad, let's not pretend they aren't lowest-common denominator garbage.

There's a reason why shows liked by the majority are not nominated for awards very often.

So why did you bother clicking this thread considering you don't have Showtime and know absolutely nothing about this show? Homeland is not just a popular show with the critics. It's one of the most talked about shows in Entertainment and TV trade magazines and on many message boards/social networking sites. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but trying to comment on something you know zilch about makes you sound really uninformed especially when you said...what's Homeland?

If Homeland is one of the most talked about shows, then why is the only time I ever hear about it that commercial where the cast is sitting in some guy's kitchen and he tells them about the marathon of the show he's going to watch ? And did I say that I didn't have Showtime ?

I don't watch CSI. I quit watching American Idol when they brought Ellen on. They ARE lowest common denominator garbage. Can't STAND Breaking Bad. Never seen Game Of Thrones, though it does look the kind of ancient/fantasy/Lord Of The Rings kind of stuff that I like.

732,000 likes on Facebook. 45,000 followers on its official Twitter page. Over 2.2m viewers watch it per week on Showtime and On Demand. Yeah no one has ever heard of it. Not to mention the Emmys it won this year, which is the most high profile TV awards show in the United States.

season 1 was also the #6 best selling blu ray among dramas on Amazon.com this year.

Plus it was renewed by Showtime for a 3rd season.

I'm done with this argument.

No, you're NOT done. I didn't say that no one had ever heard of Homeland. I said that I had never heard of it. Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good. It just means that a lot of people like it. We already talked about this. Awards, at least most awards, aren't voted on by the majority of the viewing public. They're voted on by a committee of people that have been there for years and years and, most of the time, are out of touch with people actually like. Of course, every now and then, their views line up with the public's views.

Please explain. Why is it so surprising that I hate a show where the main character is a weak, worthless douchebag that does and deals drugs to other weak, worthless douchebags that don't deserve to breathe ?
