The opening sequence was good, though.

anyone check this out on DirecTV on demand? All my experience with these are that they look like shit, even though they say HD.

Watched it in Comcast OnDemand. The show may be one of the best looking shows, PQ wise, in a long time. Unfortunately, the compression or something wasn't right, so there were some artifacts here and there. My guess is that it was coming from the source, because most shows look great in OnDemand.
Now, about the actual show, I thought it was good enough. It can grow and get really good, or get boring, but the premise, and what they showed in this 42 or so minutes was good enough.
A lot of things happened in this pilot, that's something I liked. Things that in another show would be a big reveal later, all of that happened in the first episode.

Well dang it all but I actually enjoyed the pilot. Sure it was full of plot-holes and other phooey but if I could make it through a handful of the S.M. Stirling books that this is such an obvious rip-off of then I can also bite my tongue while watching the TV show. I sure don't expect it to last long but hopefully the quality won't completely tank post-premiere.

This show reminded me of Jericho, Flash Forward, The Event, Terra Nova, and Alcatraz. Thats not really a compliment but I watched every episode of those shows and Ill keep watching this.

They have guns so chemical (and I would guess mechanical energy) are there. Having said that I would think they would have reverted to a society between the First and Second Industrial Revolution. (ie factories, steam power, rumidentary cars, etc....). Unless it's explain, that will bug me and I usually give shows a ton of leeway.

There is no way they would have such nice cloths this many years out.
I love post apocalyptic stories but this one is on thin ice with me from the start.
I keep asking myself what the end game is for those that put this in motion.
Their lives would be pretty crummy just like the rest of the people so it really does not make much sense so far.

Do modern guns not work or something. I keep hearing how there are 10 guns for every person in this country, and yet these guys in the militia are loading muskets?

Why would guns not work but muskets would?

I was more asking the question of why we aren't seeing modern guns. I assumed modern guns would work so I was more stumped why I saw two guys muzzle loading guns in the big fight scene.

Don't over analyze, heck, don't analyze at all unless you want to scream at the TV the entire time you're watching the show. The plotholes on this puppy will be epic in scope. I am getting a kick out of the negative buzz over the reverse limb crossbow which is an actual existing item one can buy at any decent hunting supply shop.

I thought it was decent - the "twist" about who the general was was interesting. And there were some fairly brutal deaths for an NBC show. The woman strangling the guy in the airplane was a badass moment.
I'll definitely stick with it, but I too got an S.M. Stirling vibe. Especially with the huge time jump.

I liked the pilot well enough to continue watching. Yes, it's totally unrealistic, and I am not expecting there to be any satisfactory (real-life physics) explanation for why electricity doesn't work (for most people).
The girl playing Charlie is very hot. You know, if I were a hot young woman living in a post-apocalyptic world full of rapey thugs, I'd probably dress a little differently.
Speaking of The Cape, the lead actor from that is playing Monroe (Miles' former army buddy and leader of the militia we saw) in this.

I just watched this for the second time. More enjoyable this time. I'm totally in. I will watch until the end, really hope it lasts more than one season.

Just finished it. Overall pretty good, but needs to dial back the whiny young adult aspect. I agree that his good PQ, which means it needs to deliver great ratings or it will get canned pretty quick.

Thought it was so-so. Same problems I had with Terra Nova: a buncha beautiful people running around with clean clothes. Why can't they take a cue from "Jeremiah"...now THAT was how you do post-apocalypse landscapes.
I'll give it a chance but I hope it rachets up the grit factor and keeps away from being Hunter Games-lite.
