It came out of nowhere. The kid has a legitimate reason to be upset, and they could've at least said "We're going through some shit, son. Please just give us some time." instead of Walt basically going "Get the fuck out and don't ask questions."

Some of you seriously need to take off your "Walt's a badass" glasses and look at this shit from other characters perspectives sometime.

Great episode.

The train robbery scene was pretty intense.

It was obvious Todd was going to have an impact in the episode, but I actually thought Mike and/or Walt would just kill him once the job was done. It doesn't really make a lot of sense since he was a trusted person, but I thought it would be explained somehow.

Totally forgot about the kid from the beginning of the episode until he showed up at the end... then I uttered the words "uh-oh".

Funny that Walt/Jesse wanted to overcomplicate the robbery in order to avoid killing the 2 people working on the train (and I guess hiding the fact that a robbery actually took place) but in the end 2 adults were spared but a young kid died.

Jesse should just sit and listen to Mike and Walt fight, he turns into a genius whenever that happens. He could write symphonies and find a cure for cancer with this process in place. :lol:

I noticed they were monitoring the output pretty closely and didn't start the water input until 300 gallons. I wonder if, since they stopped both at the same time, if they didn't get enough water in there to replace the methamine. They didn't seem to be monitoring that too closely to see if they got the amounts right.
I mean, they said they are replacing 9/10, so shouldn't they have started it at 100 gallons provided both were flowing at the same speeds?

Almost sounds to me like even after all of that and the kid dying that they are still going to set off warning flags.

They were mostly just using gravity to drain the train and a pump to pump the water in. They weren't working at the same rate. There is a lot that Vulture and others have pointed out about this episode that bug me, but trusting Walt to get something science or math related right is not remotely one of them.

I was wondering about putting in the water while extracting the methylamine in the same tank. Wouldn't it mix some, or is Walt planning on filtering it somehow (being the chemist that he is)?

Well, they explained that it's a methylamine solution in the first place. Let's say it's 20% methylamine and 80% water. The reason 1000 gallons wouldn't be too detectable is that in the train car's size they diluted it I think he said 4%. The pesticide company it was going to would accuse the Chinese of being cheap bastards, a la the melamine they were at one point putting into milk to cheat on protein tests.

If the methylamine solution had certain properties (like a higher specific weight than water), the water would at least in a short time frame tend to just sit on top of the tank. Over the next few hundred miles, it would even out. That said, yes, that might dilute what was in their tank a bit too. I'm sure given the cooks they have done, Walt is used to having to take a few intermediate steps to assess and control for the particulars of his ingredients.

This isn't something they can hope to guess at though. Anything less than a slight deviation is going to alert homeland security and they are going to be in a world of shit. Everything just went too loose to think that they got it precisely right.

I think at some point his family is going to be killed and the show is going to end with a huge bang once he doesn't have anything left. This all goes back to speculation with him at the opener with the, I want to say, Machine gun in the trunk of his car.

I, like others, forgot about the opening until Todd blew away the kid. I wasn't expecting that, though. I really thought Todd would've ended up being an undercover agent or something later in the season.

I had no problems at all with this episode. The entire train heist, along with some great one liners, ranks this one up there with the season premiere as the best episodes of this "first half" of Season 5.

The wait until next week is going to suck. Only 3 more episodes! :(

I'm with you. I don't understand the hate for Skyler at all. She's being rational and acting in the best interest of the children.

With that being said, I love this show. Amazing how consistently good it continues to be.
