Jen had a boy that weighed 8.15 so her being huge makes total sense now.

The alien guy was crazy even for Jarrett.

I'd love to see the entire conversation between Roy and the driller. Uncensored of course.

Scripted of course.

You're wrong. This is a reality TV series. Key word: reality. It couldn't be scripted!

Deftones 01-15-14 03:45 PM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

I loved the commentary on the bets. I know this is all scripted crap, but it's moderately amusing.

Ok, the stuff about the "classified" shipment was atrocious. It was a new low for this show. Terrible.

No kidding. I caught up on some episodes last night but can a reality show "jump the shark?" I thought the alien episode with Jarrett was ridiculous but the Roy vs. the super secret shippers was just fucking retarded. I was actually embarrassed for Roy since he is my favorite on the show. I know he is getting paid for the show but damn, this was beyond stupid.

Has there been any other talk about that particular episode around the interwebs? I was just curious what others thought since you are the only comment I have seen and don't really go on any other forums that discuss TV shows.

PhantomStranger 01-16-14 06:08 PM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

That trip with Roy was an obvious jump-the-shark moment. Basically it looks like every other run now is set-up by the producers for maximum television drama. I have to believe they are hiring actors to impersonate actual people needing items shipped.

Tom Creo 01-16-14 06:21 PM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

Yeah, the Jarrett and the Alien dude was beyond stupid. This show has been on a steady decline since season 2 but........................... I still watch.

Spiderbite 01-16-14 06:57 PM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

I still watch too...but that Roy episode may have sounded the death knell for me. I enjoy a certain amount of trash TV but when they descend into stuff like the recent Roy and Jarrett episode...Ugh! I just don't want to devote any more time to the show now.

Massive, all-day marathon tomorrow (Friday), so I can catch up on these controversial episodes.

Just remember, it's a Thom Beers show. He fakes everything. If you think this is bad, you should see what's going on with Ax Men and Bering Sea Gold.

Tom Creo 01-17-14 09:28 PM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

Ax Men, Bearing Sea Gold, Gold Rush. Same shit every season. Ya gotta have something believable. There's no way in hell any company would employ these ass clowns.

TheMovieman 01-17-14 11:50 PM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

Off-topic, but same network (A&E), anyone catch that Don't Trust Andrew Mayne show? The magic is OK (though nothing new) but those he's "pranking" are (I think) obviously hired actors.

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

The episode with Roy was so bad i could not watch it all the way through. The Jarret episode was almost as bad. Yep, starting to really lose interest in the show now.

As for Bering Sea Gold and Gold Rush, i have never more inept and dislikable people. Todd Hoffman is such an incredible idiot, but the world champions are the Rydells on Bering Sea. You can clearly see they consider themselve intelligent when they are borderline brain damaged.

The wife is telling me A&E's Facebook page says Roy died?!?

Traxan 01-18-14 08:54 PM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

A&E is saying Roy died.

https://www.facebook.com/ShippingWar...ation=timeline

But I can't find a news report, and Jenn on her twitter feed said it's not true. So still trying to confirm.

resinrats 01-18-14 09:43 PM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

That would suck. Roy is easily one of the most entertaining of the shippers.

Story is up on TMZ and Variety.com. Heart attack at the age of 49.

Wasn't he a heavy smoker?

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

Yes.

According to a longtime friend of Roy's on Facebook, Roy had a major heart attack several years ago and was advised by DR's to improve his health habits, but, as he displayed on the show, Roy did what Roy wanted to do and continued to live his life the way he wanted.

Oh no. This is very sad news.

I am going to miss him. He was very entertaining on the show.

Damn Roy was the heart of that show for a lot of people. RIP

Shitty episode to go out on as well if he hadn't filmed any others.

Too bad about Roy. He was a prick, but he seemed like he cared about kids. I may just bail on the show now.

I'm sure the entire season has been filmed so he should be in whatever episodes are left.

Sad news. The same thing happened to Captain Phil Harris from The Deadliest Catch. When you survive a health scare and are middle age, you really ought to heed the advice from your doctor.

Bummed at that news, always liked the episodes where he had a job... Minus the ridiculous mysterious case episode...

Per Variety, Shipping Wars wrapped its fifth season two days before Garber's death.

Never liked they way they portrayed Roy on the show but man this is some sad news. R.I.P.

james2025a 01-21-14 06:35 AM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

Roy really had a chip on his shoulder, and to a large extent i can understand it as the world is filled with idiots, but he was really one of the best things (if not the best thing) about this show. Hearing this makes me sure that i will not be following this show too much in the future.

Actually, thinking about it, Roy looked very bad for his age. I just turned 40 back in October and i am pretty sure i look more my age than he did. I thought Roy was more like pushing 60.

On a more upbeat note, Chris put a ring on it (it being Robbie's finger)

Well, new episodes are airing, with Roy, but they have no disclaimer or note of his passing.

At the end of episode 1 they had a quick in memoriam thing for him.

OMG, those blonde girls are fucking stupid. they rival Jarrett as being the stupidest on the show. it was funny watching that one chicks boobs bounce on the rough road.

lewisb73 06-06-14 12:20 PM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

Kinda thought they would put a little more of a mention of Roy's passing, maybe in future episodes... after all he was the most entertaining of the bunch

Keith6601 06-06-14 12:54 PM

I really expected a "best of" episode between seasons with great Roy moments.

so these new people are interesting. a new husband/wife team, some goofus from oklahoma and some sassy trucker broad.

I didn't watch episode 2 so i don't know if they were in there. Maybe they are trying to get a better rotation of people.

james2025a 06-12-14 08:56 AM

Re: Official Shipping Wars discussion thread

I have not watched a single episode of the new season so far. When they bring new people in it always seems to go downhill pretty fast, and Roy was actually one of the more interesting things to watch as his attitude was always gold. That stint they did in the last season though with the secret package FBI type delivery make me roll my eyes and i turned it off quickly. Could not watch it all the way through. Utter rubbish. If Jen starts getting her kit off them i might check in once in a while...until then i am out.
