However, I called this morning to "complain" and got $15 off my bill for 6 months and an additional $5 off my bill for 3 months. Your move Viacom.

Dang. I only got the $5/3 mo. I want the $15 off too. How'd you do it?

i just called and got us off $20 per month for next 6 months. that is awesome!

ask for retention dept. and say you are leaving to go to Dish or TW Cable because of Viacom blackout. she apologized profusely about loss of channels and at first offered only $15/6mos., but she then said "let me see if i can dig a little deeper" and got me another $5/6mos. off of premium channels.

she also said "they have 99.6 % chance the Viacom channels would be back very soon".

Thanks for this. I finally called and got a similar deal plus Starz free for 6 months. I also went ahead and cancelled Showtime while I was at it. I am only watching Weeds right now and it's not worth $11. I'll catch up with another time.

It was kind of funny when I was complaining about my bill she was like Do you want to cancel HBO and Showtime? I thought usually they tried to talk you into keeping those channels.

Wow...kinda surprised that there's more interest in getting a discount thn getting the channels back.

Guess what they're saying is true - the Viacom channels are crappy. Perhaps DTV should just forget about carrying them.

Yeah, I'm more tempted to drop DirecTV if they add them back & raise my bill to cover the costs.

I think it would be funny if DirecTV sticks to it's guns and advertising rates plumment for these channels because there's suddenly a lot less people watching them.

You guys think the Viacom channels suck? Practicly the only channels I watch are VH1 Classics and Comedy Central. And I love Nick Jr for my kids.

I called to complain, but only got $10 off each of the next two months. If Viacom channels aren't back by next week maybe I'll call back and try to get them to up that a bit.

Got $5 off for 6 months and Showtime for 6 months...I'm assuming Homeland is on in the fall again?

I'm guessing those that say they don't use any viacom channels either A) Don't have Kids or B) Don't believe in TV for their kids

I still think (hope?) they will strike a deal soon, so I wanted to call and get a discount while I can.

Right now all that I am missing is Awkward (on MTV), Nick Jr. for the kids (although we have DVDs and our DVR recordings ended up working) and then next week Daily Show and Colbert returns from re-runs. I am hoping this gets settled by then.

Those that are calling, are you off contract or does it matter?

Wow. Still in contract. First got the $5/off. for 3 mo., just called back in and got $20/mo. for a YEAR. (Cust. since 2001.)

Seems like a wide variety of comps being offered, but seems to be no downside to calling in to retention.

In a way I'm kinda hoping this lasts until next week to see if Stewart/Colbart will bow to their corporate masters and just make a passing soft ball joke about this or if they'll make a big comedic stink a la the Letterman/NBC days.

Kinda surprised even now they haven't said anything.

Just called and got $10 off per month for 3 months. That's totally fine with me. I subscribe to their Premiere package and I won't be greedy and pursue something higher. I'm sure the dispute will be resolved by the time the credit runs out.

My niece comes over 2 times per week and watches Nick and Nick Jr. So I actually do have a need for the channels. Plus, I am watching MTV for Teen Wolf.

I got $5 off a month for 3 months, plus a $25 credit and NFL Sunday Ticket Max upgrade for free. So I am happy. My daughter loses Spongebob for a few days but I get my football.

Is this the first time one of these games of chicken actually pulled the shows? I thought most of the time they worked it out at the last minute.

You could get the Fresh Beat Band dvds from amazon. Though, they only have the first 2 seasons...but that's alright. Most people quit watching when they got that horrible replacement Marina.

Hey the new marina isn't bad!
I just checked and I'm still able to view nick and nick jr shows I have recorded.

So I called up for 2 reasons, the viacom thing and for Sunday ticket. The Encore channels are a great gesture by DirecTV, but I have the premiere package and already have those. They gave me $5 off per month for 3 months. Nothing really. But, they did offer me NFL Sunday ticket Max for $147, which is half off. I took it. Plus, I didn't have to commit to another year contract. If I had taken regular ST for free (which they would've given me), I would've had to commit to a year. But, then I wouldn't have RZ and mobile games, so it's a win/win for me.

Yeah, we are able to watch ours now. It was weird, when they first took the channels off I got a weird "Playback error" message but by the next day, it worked.

If you have DirecTV and haven't called, definitely give it a shot. As one of the customer service agents said to me, they are "giving away the farm."

Keep in mind I'm just about to come out of contract, but here's my story:

Called the main number, I simply asked about refunds for the missing channels. Agent offered $10 off for 3 months and free Showtime for 6 months. I was fine with that, I then asked when my contract was up, she said she didn't have that info and transferred me to another department.

Was on hold for a while and another agent picked up. She told me my contract was up this month (I sort of knew but wasn't 100% sure). Then I was trying to end the call but the agent didn't seem like she wanted me to get off the phone. She said something like "are you sure that's all I can help with" and I said yes I think so and she said "I have other things I can offer you". Wow, I was not expecting that. In addition to the initial agent's items, I ended up with another $20 off for a year, another $10 for 2 months, free Starz for 6 months, and free Red Zone for the upcoming season.

Had a short talk with her after all this and she explained she was indeed allowed to offer a lot (guess it helped I was near end of contract). She also said that a lot of customers aren't even taking everything she is offering which I thought was odd. She explained she was in the retention department (which I never asked for, they just transferred me there when I asked about my contract status).

Really impressed with them and will gladly stick with them for the foreseeable future.

When was the last channel added by DirecTV? An addition- not a replacement. Was it AMCHD?
