So this means DTV is now paying over $3 billion for these channels. That works out to $150 per subscriber. When do I get my refund check?

The one good thing about these channels is when they turn them back on there will be a dozen reruns a week of all of the episodes you missed of your favorite series.

...and they're off. My channels all dropped at about 8:55pm West coast time. Some are displaying a pointed DTV anti-viacom screen, while my MTV just says tech difficulties.

Looks like they started to get pulled about 10-11 minutes ago gone.

Seems like DTV has a strategic propaganda advantage, since only their side of the story will be broadcast on the relevant channels for as long as the programming is missing.

Here's Variety's report on the going dark as it happened... Doesn't sound to me like either side is anything but a douche.

The channels aren't even listed in the guide anymore. This is gonna suck bc Spike TV was having a GameTrailers special Borderlands 2...the horror, the horror.

Shit, I can't even play recorded shows off the DVR. WTF? Tomorrow morning is going to suck when my daughter doesn't get Fresh Beat Band.

Is this the first time one of these games of chicken actually pulled the shows? I thought most of the time they worked it out at the last minute.

Wow, shows recorded onto the DVR from these channels can't be played? Geez..

I know when they got into a dispute with Tribune broadcasting a few months ago, those channels got pulled for a couple days.

The day it's all about directly supporting your shows (either with ad views or subscription fees) can't come too soon for me. Yes, I know sadly what will happen is that I'll get fewer shows this way because the masses who consume Jersey Shore subsidize me at the moment. I'm okay with this. At least that system will be honest and direct. That's what I love about music these days, and the revolution cannot come quickly enough for video as well.

People who think this is a good idea don't seem to take into account the fact that if this were the case the networks would probably just charge a bunch of money per individual channel. Say each is $5 or more a piece and an average basic cable plan (where I live at least) is probably somewhere in the $50 range or so you wouldn't save a lot.

I can play my DVR recording of Teen Wolf from this past monday without issue. I can also play the last of the five or six Attack of the Show recordings from G4 on my box without problems.

AMC is no longer on Dish, and FX/FOX was off of Dish for some time before they came back.

+1 That's what I love bout getting content via OTA and DVD. If I don't support it being made I don't pay for it.

We know this. We're fine with it. If Channel X decides to charge too much then we'll be able to just cancel it and vote with our wallets.

Satellite and cable providers sure hate with having to buy their channels in a corporate bundle--not that they ever have any plans to let *US* buy our channels ala carte they way *they* want to.

Luckily Power Rangers: Super Samurai is on hiatus, so this shouldn't affect many.

Completely fine with me, I would prefer it.

I know I am not getting a refund for these channels but I wont miss them at all as I never watch any of them.

I remember the FX/FOX blackout on DISH a couple of years back. I have friends and relatives who have DISH and they were pissed. Haven't there been incidents in which channels have been pulled from Comcast or Time Warner? I know Time Warner has had carriage disputes in the past.

I read several articles over the Viacom and DirecTV dispute, and in the comments section of those articles there are a couple of people who comment how they are glad that have cable. I don't think some people realize that any cable or satellite company can end up in a carriage dispute.

I have to agree, if they were al carte options networks would definitely charge individuals like that.

Honestly I don't think Comcast we have lost channels at all.

Time Warner had issues that I remember though

just called and bitched them out, they claim it will likely be resolved by the end of the day (dubious), but they did give me $5 off/month for 3 months, not too too bad considering I don't watch any of the channels that are now gone.

That's bizarre since I can play back shows recorded from premium channels if I have since canceled the channel.

I lost my CW several days earlier this year.

The Versus dispute lasted something like half a year.
