from what i understand, they were dead set because Viacom wanted it added as a non-premium (passing along the cost to everyone), whereas DirecTV wanted it added as a premium (people who want it, pay for it).

Who knows what to believe with this Epix channel. With what we get charged they should just give it to us for free.

That seemed to be a sticking point in this whole negotiation. Directv is dead set against adding EPIX for some reason, which is a shame because I'd really like to have that channel.
If the Viacom deal is done I can finally watch the SNL repeats again on VH1.

Does anyone not black these out with their favorite channel lists? I can't imagine having to flip through all of that shit to get from CNN to HBO.

Taking some numbers from this story:

So... $600 million more paid to Viacom in the first year alone, and 20 million customers. That's $30 per customer per year, or $2.50 more per month that will be added to your bill in the near future when DirecTV "adjusts" their pricing.

...OS ANGELES (AP) — Viacom and DirecTV fought a bruising bout over fees to a draw Friday and agreed to a long-term deal that ended a 10-day channel blackout.
Their new deal restored MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and other channels to 20 million DirecTV customers and ensured those channels will be available to subscribers on computers and mobile devices in the coming months.
Fans on Twitter expressed relief.
According to terms shared by both sides on Friday, DirecTV Group Inc. will pay about 20 percent more to carry Viacom Inc. channels on satellite TV lineups. That works out to about $600 million in the first year of a seven-year deal. The companies agreed to annual single-digit percentage increases in subsequent years....

When I went to tivo to set a comedy central show noticed that station and all other viacom stations had been deleted from my channel list and were no longer even options on my channel list...anyone else have this happen?

Good thing I remembered to call in Wednesday night, was able to get $20 off for 12 months and 3 free months of Showtime and Starz.

Yeah, it was $3.
The fact is you should regularly call, do the "cancel service," and work deals.
All I know is that if DTV doesn't lock up ST exclusively again, they're going to be screwed. I can't imagine the offer they are going to make the NFL for the next contract. They pay $700M/year for the current one, due to expire after the 2014 season. They're probably going to have to pay at least double that for the next one.
