Wasn't too crazy last night's episode and the only highlight of the episode was the "surprise appearance" by David Wallace.
Seeing Darryl and Nellie in a scene together made me wanna puke

Kevin stole the show last night. Good stuff. Outside of that, meh.

Didn't really understand David Wallace's cameo unless that was a setup to bring him back to the series and put Andy with him in some sort of environment. Total guess on my part but not out of the realm of possibilities.
The Dwight bit would've been funny if it wasn't Dwight. He may do and believe a lot of dumb things but he's intelligent so I don't buy that he wouldn't have known how a silent auction worked. Honestly it feels more like a gag written for Creed that would've shown him bidding on the items and explaining his reasoning, then when the "winner" was announced he'd bolt out the door without saying a word.
Best part of the episode was definitely Kevin and the dog. I kept seeing Michael when Andy had screen time tonight -- most of it was painfully awkward. This isn't how Andy has been at all until this past season.

The plot summary for the season finale mentions that Andy gets some help from an old boss.

If I still cared about this show as much as I used to, I would consider that a spoiler...

I do remember Nellie (grating character to say the least) not knowing to tilt her head to eat a taco. I liked the bit eluding to Kevin's dog being dead though. I expected it to just lay there dead before he actually moved and licked his face.
Oh well. The show had a long run.

I honestly don't know why any of you are watching, let alone taking time out of your day to post to the internet about how much you hate the show. We get it -- everyone thinks the show turned to crap once Carrell left and you all want Tate to be raped and murdered.
You are never going to get back the Office of four seasons ago. Give up. Enjoy the show for what it's become, or move on to different shows. But for the love of God -- we don't need an update every week about the fact that you still hate Catherine Tate with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns.

I don't watch it every week hoping for it to be funny. I should expect it to be. Not much has changed on the show in terms of its writing teams and most of the principle cast is the same. I've defended it until last season, but if I think something is stupid I have a right to point it out.

I was suprised how much I still enjoyed after Carrell left but we've ventured beyond the realm of enjoyable with this particular arc

I was curious about the writing myself so I looked it up yesterday. The first four seasons were largely written by a core of about eight people: Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak, Michael Schur, Greg Daniels, Lee Eisenberg & Gene Stupnitsky, Paul Lieberstein, and Jennifer Celotta. Those eight people have a writing credit on around 60 of the 72 episodes in the first four seasons. "The bulk of the series."
Of those people, the only ones that have written any episodes this season are Kaling, Novak, and Lieberstein. Schur hasn't written anything since Season 4, Eisenberg/Stupnitsky and Celotta haven't written anything since Season 6, and Greg Daniels has only written two episodes since Season 4--those being the "event" episodes like Jim & Pam's wedding and Michael's goodbye.
So yeah, I think there's been some turnover among the writers and to me it's not a coincidence that the quality of the writing has dropped significantly from the first three or four seasons.

Even though they've stayed on, the quality of Kaling, Novak, and Lieberstein's writing has significantly declined. They wrote some of the better episodes from the first 4 seasons, but I haven't seen that level quality from any of them lately. Daniels or somebody must have had a strong influence on the overall tone and direction of the writing early on, grounding it more in reality and keeping the characters very consistent. Later on, the writing got broader and more goofy, and the characters started betraying their own established sensibilities, values, etc. One place I first noticed this was with Michael. In the early seasons he used to alternate between boneheaded moves and clever ones. After a few episodes of him doing really stupid, embarassing things, he'd always get a redemption episode where he'd demonstrate his brilliant salesmanship ("The Client") or showcase his big heart ("Business School"). That balance worked well because it made it believable that upper management would allow him to remain as branch manager despite his shortcomings and also helped to explain why the employees tolerated all his insensitive remarks and politically incorrect behavior and didn't just file an endless series of lawsuits. Later on, they really cut back on redeeming Michael. He just stayed in well-intentioned-but-completely-insensitive-idiot mode nearly the entire time, and his antics got less and less believable.

I strongly doubt Carell is coming back to the show in any capacity until the finale. There's absolutely no reason why they would randomly insert David Wallace into the show unless they had a plan to use him later.
