I've been a big Chase fan since I was a little kid, but his douchebagedness is legendary. Though I initially started watching Community because he was on it, the show would survive just fine without him. Harmon calling him out in front of his family was not cool though, regardless of his actions. Do that stuff in private.

Chase may be a dick but Harmon is an insecure, batshit insane maniac so I'm guessing they are at least equally at fault.

Dan Harmon played the voicemail message during what was essentially a stand-up comedy performance. The audio that's available is someone's recording of that show - so his audience laughing at the voicemail message.

I know they could never get him, but it would be epic if they replaced Chase with Bill Murray without any explanation.

That would be the greatest recasting of all time.

I just like to pretend Chevy Chase is Clark Griswold and live in a fantasy world.

I think it's all true and disappointing. But I never let personal lives of those involved affect my enjoyment of entertainment, so I hope it just doesn't derail the show.
Controversy = Ratings

See "Two and a Half Men".

Two and a Half Men was getting ratings long before the controversy.

I'm the same way.

Chase has been known to be a dick since the 70s. This is going back to when he blew up on SNL. He was a very talented comedian, one of the funniest of the 70s/80s, but he's really fallen off the mark. He did a lot of low-tier schtick before he got cast in Community -- not that Community is an elite program but it sure is better to be in prime time every week than in the junk bin at Walmart.

Supposedly Chase wanted a scene re-written. I wonder why they didn't accommodate his request.

Re: Community -- "Digital Exploration of Interior Design" -- 3/29/12

Chevy Chase is getting support from several staff members at "Community" ... who tell TMZ there are a bunch of people at the show who feel the actor was UNFAIRLY attacked by show creator Dan Harmon.

As we previously reported, Chase recently left a scathing voice mail for Harmon after the producer led a "F**k Chevy" chant at the season wrap party.

Now, sources who work on the show tell us ... "What Dan Harmon did was f**ked up ... Chevy is a pleasure to work with."

We're told ... many people on set feel the "dispute" that took place between the two men during the taping of the season finale was blown out of proportion by Harmon ... because Chevy was "very respectful."

Here's how we're being told it all went down -- Chevy had an issue with one of the scenes and asked for a rewrite. We're told Chevy was very calm and polite ... but told producers he would "respectfully decline" to participate in the scene unless a change was made.

Producers shot down Chevy's request ... and he quietly left the set without incident.

Our sources tell us they felt the issue had been handled privately because Chevy showed up at the wrap party ... and everyone was shocked when Harmon grabbed the mic and unloaded on the actor.

One source tells us, "What Dan did was embarassing and left a sour taste in all of our mouths ... so low class."

The source adds, "The staff was not pissed at Chevy ... we're pissed at Dan. We all hope Chevy comes back next season."

True, but after Sheen started beating up hookers they went through the roof.

It's not really that smart to come out and call the head-writer and showrunner "low class".

Some fools will be losing their jobs if he finds out who they are, methinks.

Chase does not have final say on scripts. Nor should he. We've all seen the schlock he'll do for money.

From what I know now, both parties made some bad choices, but Dan Harmon made the situation worse by calling him out and then later making that voicemail public.

Depending on what site you read, it's blatantly obvious what side is leaking the story. These stories seem to be favoring one side or the other.

Harmon has a history of loosing control of his maniac side in public. Having witnessed his previous meltdowns I have no problem believing that TMZ quote.

The story about the "fued" is on Fox News, Huffington, Yahoo... you can't buy publicity like this. If this is a planned deal, then it's genius. If it's not, then it's still genius.

Sounds like they both have problems. I wouldn't have an issue with Pierce not coming back next season. I just hope this doesn't affect Community HAVING a fourth season.

I actually think it could only help as the cost for cast salaries would actually go down. If you were going to lose a cast member from the core study group, Chase is the way to go anyway.

Great Chase article from 2004 in EW:

'He's Still Chevy Chase (And You're Not),' August 2004

That article referred to Christmas Vacation as junk.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Definitely not junk - one of the best Christmas movies ever IMO.

I'm glad he apologized to me for trying to make Chevy Chase look like an idiot. That makes sense.
