How many other sit-coms out there could pull that off? And yet in Community, you simply think it's brilliant. And for that I can forgive the occasional duds, because on average it's still far and above everything else out there. I actually really enjoyed this week's episode. I felt like last week's was far weaker. I'm hard pressed to even remember what it was about.
Yep... I completely agree. When the show has such a high ceiling I can forgive the occasional dud. Rewatched this one again. Loved the stuff with Jeff and his ego. He was hilarious as an out of control monster. Two episodes in and they keep giving us lots of stolen glances between him and Annie, too.

This third season has been really hit or miss with more misses than hits. This one was a miss. Every episode still has it's moments but compared to season 1 and 2 this season doesn't even come close to comparing.

The final conversation between Abed and Evil Abed was interesting. He was openly admitting that doing shows like this (with endings as bizarre as this one was) would lose them viewers.

Yeah I liked that little bit that was thrown in about that.

The worst episode of Community is still better than the best episode of The Big Bang Theory.

I consider BBT to be very disposable entertainment. I sit there. Laugh at some of the one-liners. And then go along my merry way. It requires very little effort from me as a viewer. I don't have to remember any of the characters' history or almost any other episode for the one I'm watching to make any sense. I think that's why programs like Community (and HIMYM) have a difficult time capturing viewers. The creators of these kind of comedies basically expect the viewer to make some sort of commitment in order to understand what the hell is going on.

So I wouldn't agree with you. For me these are just two very different shows. One asks very little from you for a marginal payoff. The other asks a lot from you with a great payoff.

That is simply not true. I enjoy both shows and there are definitely some great BBTs that are more fun to watch than a few of the Community misses.

It is possible to enjoy both.

To all you critics and fair weather fans, I'd like to paraphrase Troy:
"Shaaame on you people. It's not our job to criticize Community. Community doesn't need criticism! Community is a magical elf-like TV show that makes us all more magical by being on the air...All we had was dumb reality before we saw this show. And its made all of our lives better than reality. Now it's become a little less funny and it's time to get real? For shame!!"

Loved the Chang Renee Zelwegger bit towards the beginning with her lemon face...

Happy Endings also did a Zelwegger impression a few episodes back. Why is everyone picking on her suddenly?

Ehhhh. Ok episode. Definitely not one of the best ever, and not even one of the best this year. Some funny bits here and there, but nothing really great this episode.

I can't make it through five seconds of BBT. My immune system rejects it.

Everyone has shows like that. It would be... weird if everyone loved the same stuff and hated the same stuff.

I'm not a hater, and think BBT is okay (ie - just okay). I used to watch fairly regularly when it was on Monday nights, and was generally (mildly) amused by it. But I haven't bothered with it since it moved to Thursdays. It is one of CBS's better current sitcoms, although that isn't exactly a high standard to which to aspire. I do think it gets much more mainstream praise than it merits.

Community isn't perfect either, but I think its overall ambitiousness wins goodwill from fans of smart TV.

So you are allergic to words and pictures. Might want to get that checked out.

Point is, I think Arrested Development is the greatest sitcom of all time and I watched that show from the premiere of the pilot, so I'm not even one of those people who only discovered it on Netflix. And yet...I still enjoy BBT, hate Two and a Half Men, love Community and Parks and Rec, and still enjoy The Office.

This is my taste that is unique to me and one simply cannot say you can't like one thing if you like another.

Oooo! An Arrested Development elitist!

The episode where Michael ends up in the clink has a scene that made me laugh so hard I almost passed out. Michael is on the phone with George and he tells him he has a "nice, hard cot" for him. Michael looks confused and repeats himself. "No. A nice, hard COT."
