Noticed on the credits that this was directed by frequent Costner collaborator (from the early days ) Kevin Reynolds. Not sure if I remember right, but I could have sworn that Reynolds said he would never work with Costner again after Waterworld.

Per Wikipedia:
The two friends stopped speaking;[...] Later, Reynolds and Costner reunited to record a commentary track for the extended special edition DVD of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

So it would appear they made up.

^ FWIW, I heard their feud (pun intended) stemmed from Reynolds doing some "ghost directing" of sorts on Dances With Wolves, and when Costner won his Oscar , he never thanked him.

They let 45 minutes go before they started the first commercial.

It wasn't too bad. I'll probably watch part II & III now.

I don't know anything about the feud but I liked the first part a lot. Looking forward to the rest.

Really enjoyed the first part. Was very tempted to pre-order the blu-ray. If parts two and three hold up, I'll order the BD for sure (assuming the price is right).

Re: Hatfields and McCoys trailer with Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton

Re: The Costner/Reynolds feud...they made up. There was an article in TV Guide about it. Their personal feud came when Reynolds quit WATERWORLD and said publicly that "in the future, Kevin Costner movies should only be directed by Kevin Costner." But they seem to have come to a truce...good movie to do it with!

I really liked Part I...a good reminder of how great an actor Costner can be with the right material...he hasn't been this good since OPEN RANGE. I think an Emmy nod might be coming if Parts I and III are as strong as part I.

You obviously don't understand how seriously Southerners take their barbecue.

Re: Hatfields and McCoys trailer with Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton

Really liked it until it lurched off the path into the Johnse-Roseanna story. Everything seemed very authentic until then. Can't remember the original details (and don't want to spoil the story by doing advance research), but I was rooting for the McCoy boys to fatally plug Johnse when they saw him "kissin' on" their sister. Sadly, we had to endure (as one critic put it) what threatened to be a CW version of the feud, complete with late-night seduction, rapturous skinny-dipping, declarations of love, etc. from (again, quoting a critic) the two "prettier-than-likely" younguns. Likewise the seduction of a drunken Johnse by Roseanna's cousin. Much more effective was Paxton's dumping of the hope chest & other moments showing how deeply the feud had laid its claim at that point.

Nice job by most of the actors approximating Appalachian (pronounced correctly by Paxton, BTW) dialect. Was also surprised to see how well Romania could pass for rural WV.

Costner, Paxton, Boothe, Winningham, and the main supporting cast are outstanding so far.

I'm just glad those g-d commercials will finally end.

And did they really film in Romania? THey couldn't find a few empty acres of Appalachia to shoot?

They did...Part II is about when they put aside their differences to fight vampires.

Cable isn't sticklers about 18-49 demos as much as broadcast.

But, just to satisfy your curiosity, it's slightly under 4.0...approx 3.7 or 3.8.

According to the article, it's the number #1 rated non-sports telecast in cable history.

Good.

Maybe it will inspire some of the simpleton network execs to make more stuff at this level.

Didn't Selleck's western hold the record until this?

Obviously, or many great shows would have either been axed long ago or never come to light in the first place.

Re: Hatfields and McCoys trailer with Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton

Hard to swallow that these backwoods folks would say that somebody was "incognito". Also not sure that the judge would have say that Johnse "knocked up" Roseanna.

Even if those terms were common in that day, it still sounds a little jarring alongside some of the wonderful period dialogue.

Favorite character so far? "Bad Frank" Phillips

It's only jarring if you consider it to be a modern term. The history of it actually dates back to 1830, though it was originally used as a term referring to slave women.

History Of knocked-up
