When did you stop watching The Simpsons?

I haven't stopped watching new episodes, but I did stop re-watching episodes around season 10. I've pretty much got seasons 3-6 memorized.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?
I stopped last year. I had a season pass on my Tivo and was also recording the daily hour of the syndicated episodes. I got to the point where I would just delete episodes without watching or would hold the newest episode for quite a while because I just wasn't too motivated to start it. Seemed like a sign that it was time to part ways with the series.

I stopped watching many years ago. I don't watch any of the Fox Animation Domination shows. Archer is 1 of the few cartoons I watch regularly.

Early, like season 3, when they began pushing Bart aside for Homer. I think the last one I saw was the one where Mr. Burns was close to dying and he got a blood transfusion from Bart that brought him back to life.

Well the thread is called "when did you stop watching the Simpsons"... People still watch the show as evidenced by the fact that it's not only on the air but has been reknewed for two years.
I haven't watched an episode in the last few years, but after season 9 there were entire episodes where I wouldn't crack a smile.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?
Years ago I remember seeing a commercial for an episode, and I wasn't watching the show anymore by that point so I have no idea what season it was. Anyway the commercial featured Marge with bulging muscles like some bodybuilder and I thought, "that's WHY I haven't watched a new episode in years."

I quit watching from season 13 through season 16. The Mike Scully as head showrunner era absolutely gutted the show, which drove me away after season 12. Al Jean does a much better job at running the show and at least making it resemble the structure of the classic years.

I had to look through the list of episodes to be sure when, but it was 1995. It was one of my favorite shows a couple of years earlier, but then I just gradually lost interest in it and sometime in 1995 I stopped watching it (which, for me, meant I stopped programming my VCR to record it for watching later, which was how I saw every show I liked back then).

'Simpsons' creator: Real Springfield is in Oregon
Associated PressBy NIGEL DUARA | Associated Press – 1 hr 2 mins ago
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — One of the best-kept secrets in television history has been unmasked, with "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening revealing the Springfield in Oregon is the basis for the hometown of his characters.
The admission came in an interview with Smithsonian Magazine (http://bit.ly/HqiT4E ) published online Tuesday.
Groening says he was inspired by the television show "Father Knows Best," which took place in a place called Springfield. Springfield, Ore., is 100 miles south of Groening's hometown of Portland.
Groening says he has long given fake answers when asked about the Simpsons' hometown.
The show has made a running joke of hiding the true Springfield's location. In one episode, daughter Lisa points to Springfield on a map, but the animated "camera view" is blocked by son Bart's head.

Which probably explains why I stopped watching the show. It's stopped being creative.

Why would Groening just revealed in a stupid interview rather than incorporate into an episode just about the revelation? Stupid move, consider countless hours devoted to keeping it a secret.

I don't believe that at all. One of the funniest bits in the movie was when Flanders pointed out the states Springfield bordered.
The town itself I thought was based off of Portland but had the name Springfield since there are so damn many of them in the US.
That's one thing I enjoyed when I was in Portland -- finding all the streets named off of Simpsons characters.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?
The episode refers to the long-running joke of Springfield's unknown and unidentifiable location. The original version of Forbes' line at the end, "The future looks brighter than ever for this Northern Kentucky family," was changed multiple times. Scully said the writers did not want to "pin it down for the fans," and with knowledge that the episode would rerun twice, had Forbes record several alternate locations, which were indeed seen on Fox reruns. Each of the alternate locations, including the unused "small island of Lanai," can be found as an easter egg on the eleventh season DVD set.
Due to the many contradictory statements regarding Springfield, it is impossible for the town to exist in any specific U.S. state. For example, in The Simpsons Movie, Ned Flanders tells Bart that Ohio, Nevada, Maine, and Kentucky all border Springfield's state.
The telephone area codes for Springfield are 636 (St. Charles County - Western St. Louis County, Missouri) and 939 (Puerto Rico). David Silverman has claimed that Springfield is in the fictional state of "North Takoma". This is substantiated by the state abbreviations NT and TA used within the show. However, this has never been officially confirmed in any canonical episode of The Simpsons or by other Simpsons producers.

Season 6 or 7. Can't really remember. I know it had to do with another show that aired in the same timeslot. I didn't record shows that much at that time. Every once in awhile, I'll watch an episode, but not every week like I used to.

Re: When did you stop watching The Simpsons?
It was around the time that the Simpsons went to Japan. They were on the flight back to Springfield when a Godzilla light went on and then you see Godzilla shaking the plane.
Usually when they do REALLY surreal things, it turns out to be something more practical. Like when Homer bad mouths some artist named Matt Groening and all of a sudden a giant pencil eraser starts to erase him, then the camera zooms out and you see that some movers are just moving a giant prop pencil and that it bumped into him.
Also before, when they had celebrities doing voice work, it was for a new character. Then it was Alec Baldwin as Alec Baldwin on this weeks episode of The Simpsons.
So for me, it was when Godzilla actually appeared, combined with "The Simpsons meet [insert latest celebrity name here], and when Marge got steroids/breast implants.

I was a fairly consistent watcher the first 5 years or so. I think I'd still watch it if I was back in the days where TV was the only mindless entertainment and I watched several hours a day. But now I only keep up with a few shows a week, if that, and spend more of my "fun time" on the internet or playing video games.
